The role holder will lead a diverse team of tracks team members to ensure the best possible racing surface is presented for each race meeting and daily horse training.The successful candidate will also manage the training facilities at Royal Randwick, attributing to Australian Turf Clubs success as one of the premier Racing Clubs in the Southern Hemisphere.Key objectives of the role include:To provide leadership and guidance to ensure that the work and objectives of the Tracks team align with the ATC strategic and management plans.Manage ongoing maintenance of the on-course stabling complex including ordering & recording stock.Development of skills training programs to maximise potential and increase productivity and competencies throughout the Tracks team.Support the continuous improvement culture through appropriate resourcing and succession planning.Manage the preparation of the grounds and gardens at Royal Randwick Racecourse to present an attractive venue to patrons and contribute to their enjoyment of the facilities.Communicate with trainers based at Royal Randwick and foster a professional working relationship to maximise customer satisfaction and increase the number of horses being trained at ATC venues.Manage capital works programs, and contractors work, carried out on the tracks and grounds to ensure they are completed with minimum impact on racing and training needs.Assist with budget preparation and provide a range of report relating to Royal Randwick track, grounds and gardens.Implement HSW initiatives including management of the risk assessment program to identify, eliminate or control risks.THE RIGHT FITTo be successful in the role, the right person will possess:Previous experience in a similar roleTurf management and the development and maintenance of equine racing and training surfaces;Proven experience managing and motivating a team of groundspersons, greenkeepers and gardeners;HSW provisions relating to risk assessment, manual handling and the handling of pesticides and other chemicals used in the day-to-day management of the grounds and track;Strong negotiation and influencing skills and the capacity to develop and maintain strong relationships;Strong time management and organisational skills;Sound budgetary and financial management skills.Tertiary qualifications in turf management, green keeping, science or horticulture or a related discipline.If you believe you are the right fit and can demonstrate our values day to day, we encourage you to apply.
