About The Team & The Position AEMOs System Planning division ensures medium to long-term power system security and reliability in the National Electricity Market. We develop the AEMO Integrated System Plan, a 20-year blueprint for the east coasts power system, and produce System Strength and Inertia Reports, along with the annual Network Support and Control Ancillary Services Review. Our team conducts essential engineering assessments and power system analysis, influencing major infrastructure investments and guiding industry and government decisions. As part of AEMOs System Design division, we aim to integrate large-scale renewable energy resources securely and efficiently. What You Will Be Doing Perform power system modelling and analysis of the electricity transmission network using computer simulation tools. Provide technical support and advice on electricity planning and performance issues. Contribute to key planning documents like the Integrated System Plan and System Strength and Inertia Reports. Prepare high-quality reports on network capability and performance for management and project teams. Engage with stakeholders and support the preparation of advice and proposals on network planning. Develop a good knowledge of the electrical transmission network and generation in the NEM. Collaborate with AEMO staff and external stakeholders to achieve strategic power system planning outcomes. What You Will Bring To The Role Tertiary qualification in relevant disciplines (mathematics, operations research, engineering, physics, etc.) and ideally relevant industry experience. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, with some programming experience. Experience in using power systems analysis tools including load flow and fault level calculation software (e.g., PSS/E, Power Factory, PSCAD). Demonstrated ability to generate reports suitable for external stakeholders and management. Knowledge of transmission substation design, cost-benefit assessment, and investment decision-making under uncertainty. Basic understanding of electrical power systems, their design, and operation, including electrical and control system theory.
