Job Title: AOD Counsellor - ACCHS - Mount Isa, Queensland. Job Type: Permanent Full-Time. Location:Mount Isa may require some travel to remote communities across the North-West and Lower Gulf of Carpentaria region when required. Practice Information:The National Youth Mental Health Foundation opened a new centre in Mount Isa in December 2014. The lead agent for headspace Mount Isa is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Mount Isa. This mental health service is governed by a consortium of local community organisations and provides early intervention services at no cost for young people aged 12-25 years across four core areas: Primary Health Care Mental Health & Counselling Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Services (ATODS) Vocational/Educational Services Position Description:The purpose of the counsellor is to provide engagement, screening, assessment, and coordination of care for young people engaging with the Youth Health and Wellbeing Team, ensuring a quality, safe, and accessible service. The role involves implementing evidence-based clinical interventions and coordinating care for young people with more complex difficulties. The position may also involve providing professional clinical supervision for staff and students where indicated. Position Summary: The headspace counsellor will provide evidence-based clinical interventions and coordinate care for young people aged 12-25 years presenting with complex difficulties within their scope of practice. The headspace counsellor will provide clinical professional supervision within their scope of practice and competencies. This position requires providing counselling services, including engagement, screening, assessment, and coordination of care, in an evidence-based and effective manner. Qualifications & Experience:Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required documents must be provided prior to commencing clinical duties. The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree in Social Work (or equivalent qualification) with general registration as a Counsellor. Current membership (or eligibility and willingness to gain membership) of the Australian Counselling Association or equivalent, with demonstrated ability to adhere to the professions code of ethics and practice in accordance with legislation. The successful applicant will have experience in a senior practitioner role and relevant tertiary qualifications in Health or Behavioural/Social Sciences with current registration with a professional body. Ability to build and maintain partnerships with diverse community groups and stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples.
