The Board is mandated to make decisions, under a statutory framework, about the reintegration of eligible prisoners into the community. The Board''s paramount consideration is the safety and protection of the community.The Board''s functions include making decisions about whether to grant, deny, defer, vary or cancel a prisoner''s parole. As a statutory entity, the Board has no inherent power and can only perform functions under delegated authority of legislation.Members are Governor in Council appointments, on terms and conditions consistent with the Department of Justice and Community Safety, and for an initial term of three years.The Board is located at 50 Franklin Street Melbourne.About The RoleA Full-Time Member will bring a high level of knowledge of relevant practices, policies, guidelines and law to the Boards deliberations, ensuring quality and consistency of decision-making, and that the Boards decisions are clearly articulated.In addition to Board sitting commitments, the Full-time Member will:Work collegiately with the secretariat supporting the Board to implement systems, policies, practices, guidelines and recommendations to improve the quality, consistency, recording and communication of Board decisions Provide brief overview of the business unit/branch and purpose of the position.Provide induction training to new Board members and facilitate and deliver ongoing professional development opportunities for members including by regular member seminars.Represent the Chairpersons at meetings and on committees, or in any other way.Support sessional Board members by providing regular information about Board practices including developments and changes.Contribute to writing, reviewing and updating the Parole Manual, Practice Guidelines, the Boards Annual Report and other resources and reference material.Consider and where appropriate manage matters administratively, including writing complex correspondence, memoranda, briefs and other documents.Participate and where appropriate lead projects to review, improve or change Board operations.Liaise with stakeholder groups such as business units within Community Correctional Services, Corrections Victoria, Forensicare, Victoria Police, prisons and other groups involved in the criminal justice system.Who we''re looking forThe Full-Time Member Should Be Able To DemonstrateAn understanding of the relevant Victorian legislation, policy and issues relating to prisoners.knowledge of the criminal justice system, corrections environment and the issues relating to the rehabilitation of offenders.Demonstrated ability to apply the practices, policies, procedures, and statutory responsibilities of the Board.While no formal qualifications are required, Full-time Members must have a demonstrated record of achievement in their chosen profession and demonstrate a commitment to community service and/or qualifications or experience in law, corrections, psychiatry, psychology, social work or another relevant field.What you need to applyPlease click the Apply button on this advertisement.
