This enables measurements made in Australia to be accepted internationally ,which is particularly important for trade. We contribute actively to international measurement forums and enhance our capabilities through research and development in line with national and international requirements.About The Time And Frequency TeamThe NMIs Time and Frequency team are Australia''s timelords. They keep time for Australia with an ensemble of atomic clocks that also contribute to the international time standard, Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC). Time is distributed over the Internet to users in industry, commerce, government, and education by a nationwide network of time servers connected to our atomic clocks. The availability of accurate, reliable time is increasingly being recognized as critical infrastructure in the digital economy.The Time and Frequency team offers calibration services to industry, providing a diverse and unique portfolio of measurement capabilities, including measurement of optical frequency. We have developed an in-house system that provides a remotely-located customer with a source of time and frequency on their premises that is continuously traceable to Australias time standard. Supporting these systems is one of our major activities.The team collaborates with universities, other national metrology institutes, and industry on research projects focused on improving its time dissemination capabilities.
