EL1 Media and Communications officerYour new companyWorks to create safety for all Australians online. You will be part of the Communications division and work across all comms and media at a senior level.Location: Sydney**Please note you must be an Australian Citizen to apply for this role, at a senior EL1 level. Please do not apply if you are on a visa or a permanent resident as we can not consider you. **WFH Available: yes (1-2 days per week)Contract extension: Possibility of two 12-month extensionsSecurity clearance: BaselineYour new roleRequires a highly experienced media and communications professional with a background in regulatory affairs to undertake the following functions:1. Provide expert advice on the organisation''s communications requirements, particularly in relation to media engagement and public affairs in key technical, regulatory announcements and issues2. Work directly with senior executives to provide tailored materials including speeches, op-eds and other voice-specific communications, including accountability for drafting, review, SME input and delivery of finished product.3. Produce other high-quality communication products such as media releases, and blogposts4. Develop strategies and proactively seek opportunities that support the organisation''s public profile, including story placement with media outlets, responses to media enquiries and issues management.5. Effectively manage relationships with journalists and a range of other external and internal stakeholders6. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the department''s communication outcomes and contribute to regular communications reporting7. Monitor and deal with media requests when out of hours, including weekends on a rostered, on-call basis.What you''ll need to succeedWe are looking for candidates with:1. An ability to translate complex data/concepts into written work that is relevant and digestible to a range of audiences2. Strong ability to match desired voice and tone in key written materials3. Sound knowledge of online safety regulation and ability to translate technical detail across a range of audiences, from stakeholder comms to specialist and mass media4. Proven ability to apply professional knowledge and provide specialist advice in relation to issues of risk and reputation management relating to media relations and public affairs5. Excellent research and analytical skills6. Proven experience in handling confidential and sensitive issues7. Strong ability to gather and investigate information from a variety of sources while exploring new ideas, different viewpoints and identifying critical gaps to ensure that communications materials are on-point and are constructed with a strategic lens.8. Exceptional written communication skills including demonstrated ability to produce and edit a range of complex materials for print, online and in person audiences.9. Media relations experience including preparing media releases and reactive media statements10. Proven track record in the preparation of speeches, talking points and scripts for an agency head or equivalent senior executive which are informative, thought-provoking and engaging11.
