Youll have the opportunity to lead and shape systems that support world-class research, working in a dynamic, collaborative, and outcomes-focused environment.Main Purpose of the RoleThis position plays a critical role in supporting the strategic and operational delivery of Breakthrough T1Ds research funding programs. With responsibility across the full grant lifecycle, from launch through to monitoring, reporting, and close-out, the role is central to the organisations ability to administer a large number of research initiatives effectively.Operating at a mid- to senior level, the role requires sound judgment, an ability to interpret and apply complex funding requirements, and confidence in engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, including researchers, institutional partners, and funding collaborators. The position is ideal for someone with strong operational skills and a strategic mindset, seeking to take ownership of high-impact processes and contribute to Australias leading efforts in accelerating T1D research.Employee BenefitsAccess to not-for-profit salary packaging (FBT-exempt) to increase take-home pay.Additional Family and Renewal days during end-of-year holiday periodAdditional day of Wellness Leave.Flexible hybrid working model.Opportunities for professional development.Key ResponsibilitiesGrants management & operationsLead and manage all aspects of the grants lifecycle (pre-award to post-award) across Breakthrough T1Ds research initiatives, including national and international funding programs.Provide expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders on grant policies, eligibility, reporting, and compliance matters.Refine grants management systems usage, SOPs, and documentation to ensure operational efficiencyMonitor and track grant progress, key milestones, financial reporting, and outcomes using centralised systems and dashboards.Support the review and assessment process, including coordinating peer review panels and managing reviewer engagement.Contribute to the planning and development of funding schemes, including drafting documentation, eligibility frameworks, assessment criteria, funding agreements, and milestone schedules.Serve as a primary point of contact for institutional research offices, investigators, industry collaborators, and funding partners.Liaise with Breakthrough T1Ds international affiliates, ensuring consistency and alignment in grants processes.Team and process leadershipMentor and supervise junior administrative staff supporting grants and research operations.Lead internal training sessions and process walkthroughs for grants management relevant activitiesIdentify and drive improvements in workflow, reporting, and information management to enhance research portfolio oversight.Administrative and financial coordinationCoordinate with the Finance Team to support accurate budgeting, milestone-linked payments, invoicing, and acquittals.Ensure timely documentation, contract compliance, and audit readiness across grant agreements.Prepare documentation and reports for executive and board-level review.Skills and ExperienceTertiary qualifications in business administration, research management, or related field.Minimum 3-5 years'' experience in grants management, research administration, or a related function within a university, government agency, or not-for-profit.Strong understanding of research funding mechanisms and research ethics/compliance requirements.Proven ability to manage complex workflows and maintain attention to detail in high-pressure environments.Demonstrated experience managing databases and using grants management or CRM platforms .Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across academic, clinical, and funding sectors.Skilled in analysing and improving systems, with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset.High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel), data reporting, and project tracking.Key AttributesStrategic thinking with an operational mindset.Confidence in working independently and making informed decisions.Professionalism, discretion, and integrity in handling sensitive information.Collaborative team player who builds strong relationships across functions.Committed to continuous learning, organisational improvement, and delivering impact.How to ApplyTo apply, please submit your resume along with a short one page response addressing the following three questions.
