Our team members take great pride in what we do, and were on a mission to achieve zero transport fatalities.With more than 2 million cars on the road using our state-of-the-art operator monitoring technology, developed by our passionate team members, we provide real-time protection from distraction and drowsiness-related driving events.Seeing Machines works with many of the worlds leading brands, including General Motors, Mercedes Benz, Qantas, Caterpillar, and Toll, across the transport sectors of automotive, commercial road transport (Fleet), and aviation.About the role:Location: Melbourne, Victoria, AustraliaEmployment Term: Full Time, PermanentReporting To: General Counsel and Company SecretaryThe Senior Legal Counsel serves as a key advisor across the business on a broad range of legal issues, with a strong focus on corporate law, governance, risk management, and compliance.This role reports to the General Counsel and collaborates closely with key stakeholders across business units and corporate functions in Seeing Machines.Additionally, an important function of the role is contract risk management, including due diligence on contracting parties, and assisting with the management of our insurance contracts in line with corporate policy and board approvals, including the annual insurance renewals process.If it sounds like you read on for more information below and Apply!Key Responsibilities:Corporate Legal and Commercial AdvisoryProvide legal advice on general corporate matters, including entity formation, corporate structuring, and intra-group transactions across multiple jurisdictions.Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements.Support strategic transactions such as M&A, strategic investments, and exclusive collaborations, including due diligence, deal execution, and post-close integration.Ensure compliance with local corporate governance requirements in all operating jurisdictions, coordinating with local counsel and finance teams as needed.Develop and maintain contract templates and playbooks to drive efficiency and standardization across the business.Risk ManagementLead legal input into the companys risk management program, working with finance, audit, and IS/security teams.Conduct risk assessments on material legal and regulatory exposures, particularly in areas of data protection, cross-border trade, IP, employment, and third-party relationships.Develop and maintain a legal risk register and mitigation framework aligned with the companys risk appetite and internal controls.Compliance and RegulatoryEstablish and maintain global compliance frameworks across areas such as anti-bribery and corruption, GDPR and data protection, modern slavery, sanctions/export controls, and whistleblower policies.Lead internal policy development and roll-out, ensuring policies are practical, accessible, and embedded within company operations.Conduct training and awareness sessions for business teams on legal, ethical, and regulatory obligations.Manage internal investigations into compliance breaches or complaints and advise on appropriate remedial actions.Knowledge, Skills, and ExperienceBachelors degree in Law.At least 8 years PQE with demonstrated experience in-house or with significant secondment experience.Experience in governance, risk, and compliance.Experience with insurance contracts.Experience with data protection and privacy, including Australian privacy laws and GDPR compliance, and drafting data protection agreements.Demonstrated skills and experience in stakeholder management and engagement.Ability to initiate and recommend changes to business processes and techniques, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.Ability to solve issues through discussion, negotiation, and teamwork.Why Seeing Machines?Being part of something meaningful - We are inventive, innovative, and collaborative and are making a real difference to safety on roads worldwide.Work flexibly we encourage our people to manage their work and personal lives to achieve a balanced outcome.Diversity Strong - We are global, serving a growing market in the UK, Europe, Africa, North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.We are focused on employee support and understand the importance of our collective wellbeing.
