Its operations include protection, research and advice, investigations, crisis management, and liaising with the community, relevant government agencies and other stakeholders.The Chief Operating Officer is a senior operational leader responsible for the effective delivery of all security-related activities across the organisation.The ideal candidate is a decisive and resilient professional with a strong background in security operations and crisis management. They must possess a deep understanding of community-based protection, excel in stakeholder communication, and be comfortable operating in both strategic and highly practical settings. A proactive mindset, high level of accountability, and commitment to excellence in security are essential.Main Duties and Responsibilities:1) Strategic Implementation - Drive the execution of organisational goals by aligning departmental operations with strategic objectives, collaborating with senior leadership, and continuously monitoring progress to ensure long-term success.2) Operational Management and Oversight - Oversee daily security operations, streamline systems and procedures, coordinate cross-department goals, and lead key managers and volunteer leadership to ensure operational excellence.3) Crisis Management Support the CEO in crisis response by leading on-the-ground operations, maintaining readiness through protocols and training, and serving as the primary operational liaison during incidents.4) Stakeholder Management and Engagement - Build and maintain strong, transparent relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders and law enforcement, and other government agencies, while overseeing departmental managers and volunteer leaders; serve as the central point of escalation for security issues.5) People Management and Engagement - Lead, mentor, and integrate staff and volunteers into a unified operational team that is aligned, accountable, and driven by the organisations goals, mission, and culture.6) Grant, Budget and Financial Oversight - Oversee the use of grant funding and operational budgets, ensuring strategic allocation, financial oversight, compliance with reporting requirements, and delivery of measurable outcomes.Required Skills and Experience: Operational Security Leadership: Minimum 5 years of experience in physical security, protective services, or crisis response, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity. Team and Volunteer Management: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor staff, and integrate volunteer workforces into formal operations. Crisis Coordination: Strong background in emergency operations, including real-time decision-making, stakeholder communication and training, and post-incident reviews. Community-Focused: Experience working in or with local communities and institutions as well as volunteers.Required Skills and Experience (continued): Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to develop trusted relationships with law enforcement, government agencies, and community leaders. Systems Thinking: Skilled in designing and managing operational processes, performance measurement frameworks, and technology-driven security solutions.
