As a leading global media organisation, we are renowned for our pioneering independent journalism and our award-winning digital products.We are seeking a Reporter to join the newsdesk team to provide general news coverage for Guardian Australia.This role is being offered on a full-time permanent basis, working over a seven-day roster with weekend work, early starts and/or late finishes. This role is open to candidates based in Sydney.In this role you willPitch daily news ideasWrite news stories, features and explainers as commissioned by newsdeskRun the daily news live blog when requiredContribute to audio and video coverage to complement text publicationMake contacts and develop stories in particular areas of interestEngage with social media to promote stories and source informationYoull bring.KnowledgeAt least five years experience of working in a fast-changing and high-pressure news environment, preferably digitalSubstantial experience of writing news and short features to deadlinesGood understanding of media lawFamiliarity and ease with social mediaVideo and audio experience would be an advantageExperience of court reporting would be an advantageAn interest in a specialist story area or areas would be an advantage, particularly if not currently covered in depth by Guardian AustraliaSkills/behavioursA passion for independent journalism and an understanding of our editorial code and valuesExcellent writing, communication, interpersonal skillsAbility to deal with the stresses associated with tight deadlinesStrong news sense and ability to generate fresh ideasAbility to multitaskOrganised team playerOpen to challenge and correctionUnderstanding of, and commitment to, the Guardians values: honesty, integrity, courage, fairness, and a sense of duty to the reader and the communityCommitment to representing diverse perspectivesAbout working at Guardian AustraliaEmployee assistance program (EAP) to support employee wellbeingDedicated diversity and inclusion employee groups, action plans (including our Reconciliation Action Plan) and cultural competency trainingFor more information please view the full job description here.This role is being offered on a full-time permanent basis, working over a seven-day roster with weekend work, early starts and/or late finishes.
