About the Role: Our state government client, Tick Fever Centre, assists in the development, production, and distribution of vaccines to support Queensland''s livestock industries through the provision of a safe, effective and affordable tool for the reliable long-term control of tick fever in cattle. They are seeking a PO3 Veterinarian to join their team, based in the Western suburbs of Brisbane, on a full-time casual basis. This role will also require you to work on call every second Saturday and Sunday and attend site every third Sunday for approximately 4 hours. Applications will close on Friday 6th June As our veterinarian you will: Adhere to routine blood inoculation and collection procedures. Perform activities as per Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistent with animal ethics, Australian Pesticides Veterinary Medicines Authority) APVMA, National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), workplace health and safety requirements and legislative obligations. Routine veterinary medical and surgical work, including splenectomising calves for vaccine production. Supporting the Principal Veterinarian to ensure breeding herd system and quarantine testing program excludes selected pathogens. Health and welfare of all cattle meet requirements; with veterinary attention provided promptly when needed; and perform euthanasia, as necessary. Maintain and ensure currency of TFC databases through data collation, recording and retrieval. Under indirect supervision through Biosecurity Science Laboratory (BSL) and TFC diagnostic team leader, use specialist tick fever disease causative agent expertise to support the delivery of diagnostics testing for disease investigations and heath testing. Ensure routine diagnostic tests for animal health management are done in a timely manner. Maintain competency in vaccine parasitaemia counts. Assist in trials for TFC, the chilled vaccine infectivity trials and NZ serum trails. Mandatory requirements Evidence of registration with the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons Board. The successful applicant must hold a mandatory relevant degree in a veterinary capacity from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent academic qualifications. Commitment to obtain vaccination or evidence of prior vaccination will be required before employment commencement. Experience in handling large animals. Experience in surgery. Essential requirements Participation in an on-call roster and out-of-hours work will be required. e.g. on call every second Saturday/ Sunday and attending site every third Sunday for approximately 4 hours for blood collection and inoculation procedures.
