About the role As Senior Lawyer - Administrative Law, you will: Provide expert legal advice and advocacy in administrative law, with an approximate 50/50 split between advisory and litigation work, including judicial reviews, QCAT hearings, and privacy appeals. Provide advice on statutory interpretation and decision-making to high-level decision-makers and various State government agencies and statutory bodies. Represent government departments in Right to Information (RTI) and Information Privacy Act matters, often involving self-represented parties. Draft high-quality statements of reasons and post-decision correspondence. Manage your own files independently, including appearances in the Supreme Court and QCAT. Assist with inquiries and royal commissions as required. Mentor junior legal staff and contribute to the collaborative team culture. Skills And Experience To succeed in this role, you will bring: Admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland (or eligibility for admission). Minimum 5 years post-admission experience, with proven exposure to administrative law, judicial review, statutory interpretation, and government litigation. Confidence managing complex files independently, including litigation under the Judicial Review Act 1991. Strong understanding of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules (UCPR). The ability to prioritise work and exercise sound legal judgment in a fast-paced government practice. Experience with information privacy, RTI matters, or tribunal advocacy will be highly regarded. A background in either government legal teams or private practice with public sector clients is welcomed.
