About the Role The Principal Policy Officer leads the development of complex legislative and regulatory reforms, provides expert legal policy advice, and oversees major policy projects. The role manages a small team, ensures timely delivery of key outputs, and contributes to strategic priorities through strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities: Lead policy and legislative reforms related to the Housing Statement and consumer/property legislation. Provide expert advice to Ministers, executives, and senior leaders on consumer policy and government priorities. Manage a team delivering Cabinet submissions, Parliamentary docs, briefings, drafting instructions, and regulatory materials. Oversee policy programs, apply legislative expertise, manage risks, and coordinate complex projects. Contribute to strategic planning and high-level decision-making. Leverage deep government knowledge to drive effective policy and service outcomes. Lead stakeholder engagement and consultations to support policy delivery. Influence diverse stakeholders to align with program and policy goals. About you: Extensive experience delivering legal and strategic policy advice and drafting legislative instruments in government. Strong ability to build relationships and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders across all levels. Demonstrated experience preparing Cabinet submissions, LIA/RIS, and working within government priorities. Proven leadership skills with the ability to guide, develop, and manage team performance and deliver results. Skilled in applying project management tools to lead complex reforms, programs, and legislative initiatives. Clear, influential communicator with a collaborative and proactive working style.
