Manager, Micro Imaging Facility 2 year contract, 0.8-1.0 FTE Darlinghurst, Sydney, NSW Reporting to: Head, Research Facilities & Innovation Centre The role The Manager, Micro Imaging Facility will report to the Head of Research Facilities & Innovation Centre and work closely with the Director and Deputy Director of the Innovation Centre, as well as faculty, operations staff, and the broader Innovation Centre team. This role combines technical leadership with operational oversight, ensuring the effective operation and development of the facility. You will be responsible for managing daily operations, supervising technical staff, and maintaining high standards of service delivery and compliance. You will also provide expert guidance in the use of advanced microscopy systems, support the development and execution of custom assays and R&D services, and contribute hands-on expertise to complex imaging workflows alone or as part of multi-step projects involving other technological capabilities of the Innovation Centre. In addition, you will play a key role in engaging with external stakeholders, promoting the Innovation Centre, attracting new partnerships and funding, and supporting the implementation of the facility''s strategic growth plan. What we will trust you with Leading the daily operations of the Micro Imaging Facility, including supervision of technical staff and resource management Ensuring high-quality service delivery and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards Providing expert support in advanced microscopy techniques and imaging workflows Developing and executing bespoke and standardised assays and R&D services for internal and external users Oversee laboratory spaces, manage equipment service contracts, implement digital project management and data monitoring systems, and regularly review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure operational excellence and compliance. Collaborating with researchers to support high-impact, multidisciplinary projects Driving strategic planning, facility development, and technology acquisition Engaging with stakeholders to promote the Innovation Centre and attract new partnerships and funding Contributing to the growth, visibility, and impact of the facility through innovation and operational excellence Supporting operational oversight of other Facilities of the Innovation Centre Integrate advanced imaging services with other technological capabilities of the Innovation Centre, including some knowledge of iPSC-derived models and high-throughput electrophysiology Does this sound like you? PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. 5 years of hands-on experience in advanced cellular imaging and assay development. Proven experience in development of cell-based imaging assays and a knowledge of human cell culture Skilled in multiple imaging techniques, including confocal, high-content, and live-cell imaging (additional knowledge of microCT would be an advantage) At least 2 years of experience supervising or managing technical teams or facilities Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, comfortable balancing technical work with administrative and strategic responsibilities. Proficient in image analysis tools and data management systems. Experience with budgeting and contributing to strategic planning. Experience with grant writing and securing external funding. Proven commitment to operational excellence, highly organised and meticulous with documentation May have training in business or lab management, and experience working with research partners. Some out-of-hours work and occasional travel (intra/interstate) may be required.
