About the role Holy Spirit Catholic School, Cranbrook is seeking a dedicated School Officer - Assisting Student Learning (ASL) to commence as soon as practicable. This role is a term time, permanent (10 hours permanent) position working up to 25 hours per week across 5 days . The School Officer Assisting Student Learning (ASL) works under the direction and supervision of a teacher to provide learning and classroom support to all students including students who have identified additional needs to access and participate in schooling. This role requires the School Officer to provide support to students with complex communication needs, engaging in communication in non-verbal formats. Providing support in all areas of the students needs including toileting, transfers and signs of medical attention required. The School Officer is willing to work in a team to provide adequate support. Typical Duties The typical duties of the role may include: Providing support to individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in learning and school activities Assisting students (either individually or in groups) with specific learning needs including scribing, reading and providing feedback and observations to the classroom teacher(s) Supporting student engagement by reinforcing appropriate student behaviour Providing practical assistance to students in using classroom technology Performing administrative tasks of record maintenance, producing resources (eg. Printing, laminating etc) and other classroom administrative support Maintaining a clean and tidy classroom environment/learning space including storage facilities and assisting in setting up appropriate classroom/learning space Providing support to students in relation to their physical needs (eg. mobility support) and personal care (eg. toileting, feeding) Mandatory Criteria Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government. Current Drivers Licence Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner. Desirable Criteria No formal qualification is required;, however, a Cert III in School Based Education Support or equivalent. Some employees may be subject to pre-employment medical assessments during the selection process.
