The Biologics Platform is a translational research and development hub that supports the discovery, engineering, and production of therapeutic proteins and antibodies. This position supports both the operational coordination of the laboratory and the management of project timelines and reporting across internal and collaborative therapeutic efforts. THE OPPORTUNITY This dual-function role is responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations of the Biologics laboratory and supporting the strategic and administrative aspects of its project portfolio. The position works closely with the Head of Biologics to ensure laboratory activities run smoothly and that research projects are aligned with defined goals, timelines, and reporting requirements. This role focuses on implementation and coordination. Coordinate day-to-day lab activities including equipment maintenance, procurement, WHS procedures, and stock control. Ensure up-to-date SOPs, reagent inventories, and instrument records. Liaise with core facilities and vendors for servicing, ordering, and logistics. Assist with onboarding new team members and maintaining lab inductions and safety registers. Program Support and Coordination Track project timelines, milestones, and deliverables in coordination with the Head of Biologics. Help prepare internal and external reports, grant updates, and collaborative communications. Coordinate project-related meetings, agendas, and follow-ups with internal and external partners. Maintain project documentation including ethics approvals, data sharing agreements, and funding documents. Work with Garvans Finance and Research Office to support budget tracking and reporting, as directed. ABOUT YOU The key skills and experience of a Research Officer include: PhD in a relevant scientific field (e.g., biomedical science, molecular biology, or related discipline) is strongly preferred. Minimum of 4 years'' experience in either: Scientific program management (e.g. coordinating translational research projects, grants, and timelines), or Laboratory management (e.g. overseeing lab operations, equipment, WHS, and scientific support teams). Willingness and demonstrated ability to contribute to both operational lab responsibilities and program coordinationthis is a hybrid role that requires flexibility and adaptability. Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with attention to timelines, documentation, and reporting. Familiarity with scientific project workflows, milestone tracking, and working across cross-functional teams. Experience in budgeting, procurement systems, and working with finance or grants teams is desirable. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and escalate appropriately when strategic input is needed.
