North Queensland Region Department of Education is seeking suitably qualified Guidance Officers for various school vacancies in the Townsville and surrounding areas. These roles are offered until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined. Please note that travel may be required for these roles. About The Role Are you ready for an exciting opportunity in the North Queensland Region? We are seeking dedicated Guidance Officers (multiple positions) across various school contexts, including Primary, Secondary and Alternative Settings in Townsville and other areas of North Queensland. Link to further information about working in the North Qld Region: In this role, you will foster strong partnerships between the school, parents, and the wider community. Your expertise in student learning, wellbeing, and leadership will support individual and school-wide success. You will develop and implement strategic plans, programs, and initiatives that empower students to achieve positive educational, developmental, and lifelong outcomes. Guidance Officers Are Specialist Teachers Who Advocate, provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment, and individual student support, recommendations, and advice to students, teachers, and parents concerning educational, behavioural, career development, mental health, and family issues. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective relationships with parents, school personnel, and external support agencies to provide comprehensive support, case management, and referral services that optimise student access and engagement in educational programs. Provide counselling and referral services to assist students in decision-making about educational, personal, social, emotional, and career development, providing ongoing support during the implementation of their decisions. Conduct activities such as student observation and psychoeducational assessments to determine learning difficulties, disabilities, developmental levels, or psychological and emotional status, and make recommendations for educational adjustments and interventions. Assist schools in implementing student protection, gifted and talented education, behaviour support policies, and risk management processes, including the development of individualised student plans such as Educational Support Plans.
