ALS is a fearless advocate for justice, committed to strengthening families, empowering communities, and achieving positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.About the RoleThis is a hands-on legal role for a senior solicitor who wants to do more than sit behind a desk. As part of ALSs Aboriginal Child & Family Advocacy Service (ACFAS), youll be at the forefront of providing early, culturally appropriate legal support to Aboriginal parents and carers involved in the child protection system.Based in Dubbo and working across the region, youll engage directly with clients, families and communities providing legal advice, education, representation and referrals. Youll be a visible and active leader in driving culturally safe legal practice, working side-by-side with community advocates and social workers to keep children connected to family, culture, and Country.Your work will be critical in reducing the overrepresentation of Aboriginal children in care, and delivering on the recommendations of the Family is Culture review.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver early, culturally appropriate legal advice and representation in care & protection/family law mattersActively engage in community legal education and early intervention outreachCollaborate closely with ACFAS advocates, social workers and legal teams to provide holistic client supportBuild trust and rapport with Aboriginal clients through trauma-informed, respectful communicationContribute to legal reform, reporting, and systemic advocacy aligned with ACFAS prioritiesMaintain professional files, court representation, and ensure compliance with ALS policiesTravel to Moree and surrounding towns to provide localised, accessible supportAbout YouYoure someone who:Believes in walking with clients, not just speaking for themHas deep respect for Aboriginal communities, values, and cultureThrives in a fast-paced, people-first legal environmentIs confident managing complex legal matters while building strong community partnershipsYoull also bring:Current NSW Practising Certificate and a minimum 4 years'' experience in Care & Protection/Family LawStrong knowledge of care proceedings, legislation, and child protection systemsExcellent communication, legal reasoning, and time management skillsA valid NSW Drivers Licence and the ability to travel throughout regional NSW #J-18808-Ljbffr
