Job Description VRH Dandenong | Part time/Full Time, Experienced Medicine Nurse VRH is a multi-disciplinary specialist referral and emergency hospital. Our hospital houses specialist departments in Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Radiology and Anaesthesia. Whilst each department has a core team, our commitment to collaboration means we work closely together striving for optimal patient outcomes. The hospital has existing relationships with various education institutes, meaning we often have visiting veterinarians and students. As a hospital, we pride ourselves in teaching the next generation and sharing our expertise with the wider veterinary community. Currently the Medicine team consists of 5 Medics and 7 nurses, and we are looking for another superstar nurse to join our team. Our cohesive and supportive team values communication, teamwork and delivering exceptional care whilst having the ability to share a laugh. We pride ourselves on providing the highest standards of care for all our patients and are constantly striving to improve our knowledge and skills. Our nurses work a combination of hospital and procedure nursing shifts and assist with consults each day. We have a varied and exciting case load and receive a high number of referrals through our emergency and critical care team. We have all the facilities including MRI, CT, Endoscopy, Fluoroscopy and Ultrasound to investigate each case and work closely with all other departments to achieve the best tailored treatment plan possible for each of our patients and their pet parent. This position can be full time or part time and is for an experienced nurse. If you currently work in another Specialty or are an Emergency and Critical Care Nurse and have a strong interest in Internal Medicine training and support will be provided to help you transition into your new role. Key Responsibilities: Delivering a high standard of compassionate care to both patients and clients Planning, scheduling for the day Caring for hospitalised patients and recovering patients after procedures Preparing, facilitating and monitoring for procedures Planning, facilitating and monitoring anaesthesia Preparation of patients for procedures Ensuring a clean and hygienic environment throughout the hospital Assisting with consultations Conducting handover of patients Requirements: Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing or equivalent. Must have a minimum of 5 years'' experience working as a veterinary nurse, specialty experience preferred but training can be provided Strong technical nursing skills, including IV catheter placement, blood sampling, transfusions, feeding tube maintenance, central line care, endoscope set up and care Demonstrated knowledge of medication dosage, calculations and administration Excellent anesthesia and monitoring skills and willingness to learn from our Anesthesia team Knowledge of RxWorks and Smartflow are desirable but not essential Have a good general nursing knowledge base Open to learning and receptive to feedback Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations and adapt to changing situations A positive, flexible, enthusiastic attitude Proven ability to problem solve Maintain a high level of attention to detail Have the ability to work closely within a team and autonomously A genuine passion for providing exceptional care to animals their owners and referring vets What We Offer: Part-time/Full time opportunity within our Medicine Team Above award rates Working with a friendly, supportive and knowledgeable team who genuinely love their work Supportive work environment with opportunities for professional growth and development Access to continuing education and training programs including RECOVER and Stress Free Pets Work-life balance with a set roster, no on call, no weekends or public holidays Staff discounts on veterinary services and product Apply Now!
