About the practice K&L Gates Labour, Employment & Workplace Safety group provides advice and representation to a wide range of local and global employers across a wide range of industries covering all aspects of the employment relationship. Working with partners, Stephen Hardy and Leila Moddel in our Sydney office, now is an exciting opportunity to join the partners and the broader teams in a national and global practice. The partner''s represent Australian and international clients on a variety of employment matters including human resources, industrial relations, executive, business protection and complex compliance matters and the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions, workplace restructuring and business transformation. About the role We currently have an opportunity available for a lawyer or senior associate to join our Labour, Employment & Workplace Safety group in Sydney and work with a team of partners and lawyers across our national and global Labour, Employment & Workplace Safety group. You will be working on advisory, transactional and litigious matters across the entire scope of employment, industrial and workplace safety matters. The work is complex, challenging and often highly sensitive and required to be turned around quickly, however, you will be well supported and given plenty of opportunity to grow and further develop your skills and practice in this cutting-edge area of law. You will have opportunities to work closely with the local partners, other practitioners in the broader Labour, Employment & Workplace Safety team, as well as working on matters autonomously. No two days will be the same one day you could be advising on a heavily contested industrial relations dispute or preparing for an urgent Court hearing to seek injunctive relief in equity litigation and the next, on a client''s site assisting with a workplace health and safety investigation or advising on employment issues arising from a complex corporate transaction, insolvency or business restructure. On a day-to-day basis you will be involved in a wide range of activities including: Representing employers in employment-related disputes such as unfair dismissal, discrimination, and general protection claims Negotiating, drafting and providing advice on employment related documents including, contracts of employment, executive employment arrangements, service agreements and workplace policies Advising on compliance with employment laws and strategies for achieving desired client outcomes Litigating matters in the State and Federal Courts, Tribunals and Commissions and utilising complaint handling and alternative dispute resolution techniques, such as mediation and conciliation Developing and delivering internal and external training programs on a range of employment matters Participating in business development and client relationship activities About you We value our culture at K&L Gates and are proud of our friendly and respectful reputation. As a successful candidate, you will have demonstrated experience in a broad range of employment related matters from both a front end and litigious perspective. You will be well versed in helping clients find practical solutions to legal issues, as well as experience assisting with business development activities. The successful applicant will ideally have 4-7 years PQE experience at a well-regarded firm in its employment and safety team, have exceptional technical abilities and be commercially minded. You should be practical and proactive in your approach, possess strong problem-solving skills and be eager to develop further. A high level of client service is expected as are written and oral communication skills and excellent organisational abilities.
