Your primary responsibility is to ensure all waste handling, treatment, and disposal activities meet rigorous compliance with environmental, public health, and quarantine regulations.This is a hands-on supervisory role that involves leading teams, conducting inspections, coordinating with internal departments and external contractors, and implementing training and continuous improvement initiatives.In a nutshell, your main responsibilities are:Implement and enforce dnatas biosecurity protocols for waste handling and disposalMaintain strict compliance with legislation across food safety, biohazard, quarantine, and environmental healthSupervise waste collection, segregation, transport, treatment, and secure storage proceduresConduct risk assessments and control measures to prevent contamination or pest spreadCollaborate with operations teams, waste contractors, and regulatory bodiesMonitor facility compliance through inspections and internal auditsProvide staff training on biosecurity procedures, spill kits, segregation practices, and proper PPE usageManage emergency response procedures related to spills or contaminationPrepare and present detailed reports on biosecurity performance and improvementsAreas of FocusWaste Collection & StorageTrain and educate staff on correct handling of galley waste, including bins and cartsOversee cleaning, labelling, and compliance of all biosecurity waste containersWaste TransportAudit vehicles and processes for secure, sealed, and compliant waste transportEnsure adherence to approved transport routes and spill response proceduresWaste Separation & ComplianceMonitor unloading practices and hygiene standards in biosecurity waste zonesEnsure accurate documentation and record-keeping of waste movementsWhat do you need to be successful in securing this role?Certificate III or IV in Waste Management, Environmental Services, or a related field (or equivalent experience)Biosecurity or Environmental Compliance Training (preferred)First Aid and Spill Response certification (desirable)Minimum 23 years experience in waste management, environmental health, or biosecurity operationsProven experience supervising teams and overseeing compliance in a regulated environmentExperience in handling and transporting regulated waste, preferably in a quarantine settingStrong knowledge of national biosecurity waste regulations and waste handling standardsDemonstrated team supervision skillsExcellent communication and training delivery abilitiesSound judgment in incident response and problem-solvingHigh attention to detail and strong record-keeping skillsUnderstanding of workplace health and safety (WHS/OHS) principlesFamiliarity with Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Act (if applicable)Commitment to environmental sustainability and biosecurity risk mitigationWhats in it for you?Competitive salary.5 weeks annual leave.Staff meals, and uniforms provided.Career development and progression.Be part of a close knit and dedicated team that are committed to excellence.Discounts at hundreds of retailers, discounted health insurance, and wellbeing resources including online exercise classes.About Us:We are Australias largest and most admired inflight catering and retail partner.
