Youll be covering the biggest international and UK stories in both text and video, helping to grow the BBCs global audience and shaping our early morning digital offer for UK users.As part of this dynamic team, youll be expected to run live pages on major breaking stories, write sharp, engaging news articles, and produce impactful digital video. Youll also help curate editions of the BBC News website and app, working closely with correspondents and reporters around the world to deliver trusted, high-quality journalism to millions.WHY JOIN THE TEAMThe BBC News website is one of the worlds most trusted and widely read digital news platforms, offering tailored editions for UK and International audiences across both desktop and mobile, as well as dedicated BBC News apps.Our Sydney-based team plays a crucial role in the BBCs global news operation, taking over from our UK and US digital output teams to lead coverage of the biggest breaking stories as they unfold. Operating seven days a week, the team helps shape our UK morning news offer and ensures seamless, round-the-clock coverage. Working in close collaboration with colleagues in London and Singapore, and alongside a small team covering Australian news, this team is central to delivering fast, accurate and engaging journalism to millions worldwide.YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:Write accurate, engaging news stories and live page updates on major UK and global events, ensuring clarity, speed and editorial rigour.Produce compelling short-form digital video content with strong editorial judgement and visual flair.Curate and publish content across different editions of the BBC News website and app, tailored to diverse global audiences.Collaborate closely with BBC correspondents and reporters worldwide to deliver authoritative, high-impact journalism.Monitor breaking news, social media trends and audience data to inform editorial decisions and enhance storytelling.Contribute to the BBCs 24-hour news operation by picking up coverage from London and Washington during UK overnight hours.YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEProven experience writing fast, accurate and engaging digital news content for a broad audience.Strong skills in producing and editing short-form news video, with an understanding of its role in digital storytelling.A solid grasp of both UK and international news agendas, with a clear commitment to the BBCs editorial values.Confidence using social media, search trends and audience data to inform and enhance coverage.A creative approach to news, with the ability to develop fresh angles that resonate with new and diverse audiences.DisclaimerThis job description is a written statement of the essential characteristics of the job, with its principal accountabilities, incorporating a note of the skills, knowledge and experience required for a satisfactory level of performance.
