We are looking for a Business Development Manager who is strategic and hands on to support the continued growth of our government and public sector business. Ideally, the successful candidate would be based in Sydney, but we will also consider Melbourne or other Australian locations. What you''ll be doing: The role reports to the Executive Director, Australia and New Zealand locally and works with other global colleagues in the Practice. There are no direct reports. Along with the Executive Director, the Business Development Manager will work with growth and new business teams in WPP''s agencies - including AKQA, Burson, GroupM, Landor, Ogilvy, and VML). Success is measured by working collaboratively, both within the Practice and with those agencies, to win and retain business in the public sector. Identifying and pre-qualifying business development opportunities/RFPs with public sector clients in Australia, New Zealand and, from time to time, elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region Supporting our agencies in managing many proposals after the pre-qualification stage, which can involve pitch kick-off sessions, gap analyses, development of win themes and client and competitive research Identify opportunities for thought leadership within the public sector and conducting internal training sessions with agency staff to increase understanding and capability to win work in the public sector Developing and maintaining a pitch hub with information and other resources to make it easier for the agencies to write proposals Fostering collaboration and cooperation among WPP agencies most active in pursuing public sector work in the region What you''ll need: In supporting our agencies around the region, the successful candidate should expect to travel occasionally - three to four times a year domestically (including trans-Tasman) and one or twice internationally The role also requires liaison with our teams in different markets around the world, including colleagues in the Government & Public Sector Practice. That will mean flexible hours from time to time Extensive knowledge and experience with the tendering processes: Proven ability to support and win complex, compliance-driven tendering processes; and develop processes and content to support new business areas and growth Working in blended project teams with a high level of personal integrity and trust, as well as developing mature and trusted working relationships with senior executives both internally and externally (strong stakeholder management skills) Resilience and the ability to work towards goals independently and within a fast-paced environment Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills Strong attention to detail, particularly in relation to procurement in the public sector Project management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated understanding of and experience with the marketing and public sector in Australia (either federal or at the state/territory level) and/or New Zealand) Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (and an interest in learning others, including Monday.com) Who you are: You''re open: We are inclusive and collaborative; we encourage the free exchange of ideas; we respect and celebrate diverse views.
