Join to apply for the Manager, SH Tunnels role at Suburban Connect1 day ago Be among the first 25 applicantsJoin to apply for the Manager, SH Tunnels role at Suburban ConnectSuburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA).We have a broad range of roles available to build our diverse and inclusive workforce, including construction and engineering, planning and environmental management, corporate support, administration, communications and many others.SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains to be running by 2035.Suburban Connect is constructing the 16kms of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using 4 tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods. The works also include 55 cross passages, 2 tunnel portal structures, 2 station box excavations and associated supports.About The OpportunitySuburban Connect are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for an upcoming Tunnel Safety Manager role on Suburban Rail Loop Work Package C. The role will be integral to the safe and successful planning and support of Suburban Connect in delivering 16km of twin tunnels (32km in total), across the alignment.The Ideal Candidate Will HavePrevious tunnelling experience leading the Safety function on major tunnelling projectsExperience in supporting broad range of tunnelling activities (i.e. TBM launch and operations, cross passage construction, hyperbaric interventions)Relevant qualifications in Occupational Health and SafetyA sound understanding of Occupational Hygiene risksA demonstrated track record of working collaboratively with key delivery leads, including Construction Managers and Superintendents, in driving strong safety outcomes and a positive workplace cultureStrong leadership and management skills for overseeing the broader Tunnels Safety team.Key Responsibilities Of The Role IncludeProvide guidance and advice in line with Suburban Connect''s Safety Management System and the Victorian OHS Legislative framework .Serve as the main Safety lead for the Tunnelling Construction Delivery team for all tunnelling activities.Manage and support a team of tunnelling safety professionals (Senior Safety Advisors, Safety Advisors, and Coordinators).Champion construction risk assessment processes, including collaborating with Tunnelling and Plant teams to ensure an adequate planning through Construction Risk Assessment Workshops.Provide a point for escalation and support for in-field safety resources along with other delivery personnel.Work closely with the projects nominated Occupational Hygienist and other key resources to ensure health and hygiene risks are appropriately managed.Oversee incident investigations and corrective actions.Monitor and support safety performance reporting for senior leads throughout Tunnelling areas.Partner with stakeholders / subcontractors to ensure safety compliance.Build relationships with the Project''s client and regulatory bodies.Integrate safety protocols into project planning and execution.Lead audit and certification activities from a in-field perspective.Recommend and implement safety lead practices and innovations.Guide and mentor other tunnel safety resources.As a company that values diversity as a source of talent, we work to foster an inclusive environment that promotes respect, belonging and engagement so that all people can participate on an equal opportunity basis.
