CGGS students range from 3 years old in Early Learning through to young adults in Year 12.CGGS has a rich and proud culture, defined by collaboration, respect, adaptability, creativity, energy and innovation, and is dedicated to building staff abilities to contribute to their own growth and practice and system reform.The RoleThe Director of Teaching and Learning from Years 7-12 combines strategic vision with operational efficiency to cultivate an environment where excellence and rigor in teaching and learning are highly valued. This role is responsible for delivering the Schools BY DESIGN learning architecture, ensuring a robust and future-relevant curriculum. The Director of Teaching and Learning leads the design and implementation of high-impact teaching strategies and pedagogical practices, grounding the learning experience in deep thinking, inquiry, and application.The role facilitates the ongoing review, development, and implementation of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, feedback, and reporting. By leading the Heads of Department, the Director of Teaching and Learning promotes a culture of collaboration and best teaching practices, focusing on quality student learning outcomes. They also work closely with the Deputy Head of Junior School to ensure a seamless transition in our teaching and learning programs across the School.This position is a member of both the Educational Leadership Team (ELT) and the School Management Team (SMT) and is a high profile member of the School community. This role has both a leadership and teaching commitment. All staff with leadership positions at CGGS may be required to work outside of term time as requested by the Principal.Key Duties and Responsibilities (abridged; full details in Candidate Information Pack)LeadershipLead in the development of strategic planning and initiatives relating to curriculum, quality subject content, and pedagogical practices that support classroom interactions and cognitive engagement for academic success.Foster a culture of collaboration to drive excellence across all Departments, ensuring consistent and high-quality teaching and learning practices.Teaching and LearningInformed by research, lead excellence in teaching for Years 7-12, fostering exceptional classroom practice, student engagement and improved student academic outcomes.Be data informed and lead the analysis and promotion of the use of data to identify areas of focus for intervention to inform pedagogical practice, improve teaching and student learning outcomes and assessment design and implementation.Curriculum and AssessmentLead the expert design and delivery of the Australian Curriculum and Victorian Certificate of Education, in accordance with the high standards of academic excellence befitting of the Schools reputation.Manage the subject selection process and development of curriculum guides that ensure high quality learning pathways for all students.Communication, Operations and ComplianceOversee the development of relevant policies and procedures as well as external reporting and compliance requirements.Work with the Finance Manager and/or Chief Financial & Operating Officer to oversee the management of the Teaching and Learning budget, including the allocation of departmental budgets, and the purchasing and management of resources and facilities.General Teaching staff expectationsAssist at School events including Open Mornings and Tours.Be an exemplary classroom teacher (including VCE).Health & SafetyAll staff are expected to:Adhere to and implement all safe work practices and procedures in accordance with the CGGS Occupational Health & Safety policy, Workplace Health & Safety policy and Manual Handling policyWork safely and report any hazards in accordance with school proceduresQualifications - Essential Criteria:Tertiary degree with teaching qualificationVIT RegistrationAnaphylaxis Awareness qualification in line with Ministerial Order 706Mandatory Reporting qualificationsPrevious Experience, Skills and Knowledge - Essential Criteria:Demonstrated experience within a similar roleDemonstrated leadership experience navigating a team of direct reports across different learning areasDemonstrated excellence in teaching in a specialised fieldIntermediate computer literacy (Word, Outlook, Excel and InternetKey Personal Attributes (abridged; full details in Candidate Information Pack)A strategic perspective and experience working on strategic initiativesExperience with the implementation of innovative educational programsProven ability to lead teams and initiate change in an educational environmentHigh level of leadership, planning and people management skillsProfessional Expectations (abridged; full details in Candidate Information Pack)Demonstrate commitment to Ministerial Order No. 1359 Implementing the Child Safe Standards, and CGGS Code of ConductBe responsive and maintain respectful communications and collaborative relationships with the CGGS communityModel exemplary ethical behaviour and exercise informed judgments in all professional dealingsMeet expectations as set out in the CGGS Staff HandbookApplication process and requirements:For a confidential discussion, enquiries about the application process, or to request a Candidate Information Pack, please contact:Brendan Fraser E: brendan.f@anzuk.education or 0438 618 604 orJames Mundy E: james.m@anzuk.education or 0422 228 164Terms and Appointment: The appointment will commence in Term 1, 2026, with a tenure of five years.Applications will be received no later than Thursday 10 July and should include:A two-page statement addressing the key selection criteria outlined in the Candidate Information PackA Curriculum Vitae, including contact details of three professional referees to whom you have reportedApplications should be emailed to James Mundy, National Head of ANZUK Executive:Camberwell Girls Grammar School reserves the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.Commitment to Child SafetyCamberwell Girls Grammar School (CGGS) is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people, their families and their participation.
