This role is integral to the success of a collaborative, translational research program and will involve both laboratory-based and animal model research.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform and optimise molecular and cellular biology techniques including CRISPR-Cas vector construction, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and in vitro validation assays.Conduct animal-based studies using rodent models, including handling, in vivo delivery of vectors or therapeutics, and tissue harvesting, in compliance with ethical protocols.Maintain high-quality laboratory records and contribute to data analysis, research reporting, publications, and grant submissions.Lead or support progress on an NHMRC-funded gene therapy project, ensuring technical milestones are met.Assist with training and supervision of students and contribute to a collaborative and productive research environment.Your skills and experienceA PhD in Biomedical Science, Genetics, or a related discipline, with demonstrated research experience in molecular and cellular biology. Prior experience in ocular or eye-related research is highly desirable.Proven technical competency in molecular biology techniques, particularly CRISPR-Cas gene editing, including vector design, construction, DNA/RNA extraction, and qPCR. Experience with cell biology methods such as mammalian cell culture, gene transduction, and biological assays.Strong background in coordinating and conducting animal studies, including rodent handling, in vivo vector delivery, tissue harvesting, and post-procedural care.Demonstrated research excellence, supported by a strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed international journals and/or successful grant funding.Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to independently design, plan, and execute complex experimental workflows. Skilled in troubleshooting and protocol optimisation to enhance reproducibility and data quality.High attention to detail with exemplary laboratory record-keeping practices. Proven ability to maintain accurate experimental logs and compile data for reporting, presentations, and publications.Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary research team.Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new techniques, adapt to changing priorities, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
