With over 25 years industry experience our skilled team deliver reliable and cost-effective solutions to meet the needs of our clients Australia-wide.The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to lead our financial function and play a key role in supporting business growth and operational excellence. This is a dynamic role that will require leadership and management skills as well as accounting knowledge. A background in audit would be highly desirable with experience in team management essential.This fixed-term maternity cover position commencing in mid-late June is a great opportunity for someone seeking approximately 30 hours per week during school hours. However, we are open to discussing alternative arrangements and will consider the preferences of the successful candidate.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver accurate and timely financial and management reports, including forecasts and project reports.Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.Manage cash flow, financial risk, insurance coverage, and company financing arrangements.Prepare and review rolling project forecasts in collaboration with senior managers and project leads.Ensure compliance with all statutory obligations, including BAS, FBT, Payroll Tax, Income Tax, Superannuation, Taxable Payments Annual Reports and Payment Times Reporting.Coordinate external audits and ensure timely lodgement of regulatory and financial reporting obligations.Develop, review, and refine internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure integrity and efficiency.Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to finance systems and processes.Review the Fixed Asset Register and oversee depreciation, acquisitions, and disposals.Evaluate and manage financial risk, including foreign exchange, credit, insurance, and investment exposures.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial legislation, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.Supervise, mentor, and support members of the finance team (e.g. Financial Accountant, Accounts Officers).Ensure appropriate delegation and oversight of day-to-day finance function activities.Key RequirementsTertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related disciplineCPA or CA qualification5+ years experience in a senior finance role, preferably with exposure to project-based or asset-heavy industriesDemonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow managementProven ability to lead and develop high-performing finance teamsAdvanced Excel skills and proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Xero, MYOB, or ERP systems)Sound understanding of tax compliance, financial regulations, and statutory reporting requirementsStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and influence stakeholders at all levelsHigh level of commercial acumen, analytical thinking, and strategic problem-solving abilityStrong time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectivelyExperience with MYOB Exo or similar ERP/accounting systemsFamiliarity with SAP Concur or equivalent tools for invoice and expense managementPrior exposure to financial management in construction, marine, or resource industry environmentsUnderstanding of project-based accounting, including WIP, job costing, and revenue recognitionExperience managing external audits, financial reporting obligations, and stakeholder relationshipsAll candidates must have the right to live and work in Australia and be prepared to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment.
