In its first ventures, the not-for-profit was developed a co-located and integrated regional youth facility at the Visy Cares Hub in Sunshine, which became the largest of its kind in Australia. In the years since the Youth Junction has carved out a space linked to the lead tenancy of the Visy Cares hub, and a recognised expertise in crime prevention support services for those aged 15-25 in Western Melbourne competing in a space where a number of similar services lie. The Youth Junction Inc. works with and for vulnerable Victorian young people to support choices in education and employment, and the reduction of disadvantage. We identify and advocate around systemic blockages and work to support systemic literacy in young people through a range of collaborative, innovative and integrated service responses. This work includes our current activities but we acknowledge that the needs of this cohort are changing and evolving, and that we will need to evolve with them. Our values: We are innovative, collaborative, compassionate, and empowering.This project provides a range of targeted interventions to reduce risk and increase resilience for disadvantaged young people. The program is for young people aged between 12-24 years, and is a crime prevention partnership project lead by The Youth Junction Inc. and involving a diverse range of partner providers. It operates under a case management framework and focuses on early intervention and prevention of at risk and criminal activity amount its client cohort. To be referred the young person must have involvement with Criminal Justice Agencies such as the Magistrates or Childrens Courts, Corrections, Youth Justice, Prison/detention, or Victoria Police, and may be referred by them. The young person can also be referred by non-statutory services such as lawyers, schools and community services, if they have involvement with one or more Criminal Justice Agencies.Position purposeTo provide specialist support to young people who have been referred to YUP who present with multiple and complex needs. This position requires the Key Worker to undertake case management activities including completing assessments, attending the Magistrates Court, providing advice to the judiciary, facilitating offence specific case management, actioning referrals, engaging with key stakeholders, and liaising with young people and their families. They will also exercise responsibility for contributing to the general increase of knowledge and skill within the broader Youth Junction service delivery team.Key responsibility areasActively promote a culture of achievement and collaboration and implement systems to develop the YUP account abilities to relevant stakeholders;Undertake high quality case management support of young people within the YUP program, with a strong focus on those presenting with multiple and complex needs;Ensure policies and procedures are appropriately adhered to and referral agencies are aware of their obligations to the YUP;Managing good problem solving skills including the ability to analyse problems from various angles to achieve the best possible solutions for young people involved in YUP;Work to develop using judgement and critical knowledge and skills work methods or procedures as identified by the Coordinator or Program ManagerRole model personal attributes of professionalism, self-management, flexibility, resilience and assist others to learn these skills including students and other staffAdhere to and promote the mission and values of The Youth Junction Inc.Work to encourage strategic links between local organizations towards collaborative and coordinated action within YUP;Represent the organisation at forums, meetings and workshops.Attend supervision with the Coordinator as scheduled and escalate more critical or urgent issues in an appropriately timely manner.Utilise trauma informed practice in supporting young people within wrap around Case Management. AdministrationProvide input to the Coordinator, the Program Manager or the CEO on the progress with monitoring and evaluation of YUP and on policies, procedures and initiatives within the Youth Junction.Ensure client notes and files are maintained and entered as per case noting procedure and meet required timeframe and undertake high quality referral allocations under the guidance of the Coordinator.Ensure all documentation including assessments, safety plans, referrals and case noting of the team is up to date and contribute to regular reporting.Provide case studies for any reporting requirementsEnsure that confidential client information is appropriately managed; andEnsure that all critical incidents and major conflicts are brought to the attention of the Coordinator, Program Manager and CEO to be addressed.Quality and riskParticipate in the development and implementation of strategies, protocols, quality standards and strategic links for service coordination the development of other The Youth Junction programs as required.Develop and provide advice and recommendations to the Coordinator, and the Program Manager, in terms of monitoring, evaluation and risk management, and as invited by the Coordinator.Ensure procedures are conducted within appropriate standards. Comply with policies and procedures in accordance with relevant government changes.Ensure the workspace is functional to workplace health and safety requirements.Ensure all outreach appointments undergo a risk assessment and are discussed with Coordinator or Program Manager prior to occurring and that details are clearly documented. Personal AccountabilityAdhere to and promote the mission, vision and values of The Youth Junction Inc, and compliance with its policies and procedures.Cultivate and engage in a team focused environment and model empowering and collaborative behaviour.Cooperate with strategies to actively ensure the safety, protection and wellbeing of children and young people who come into association with The Youth Junction.Ensure appropriate use of resources.Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders in accordance with The Youth Junction Inc.s values and standards of behaviour.Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, and the health and safety of others including those in your team, and across the broader sites that you work.Promote a positive safety culture by contributing to health and safety communications and consultation and respond promptly to health and safety hazards, incidents and near misses.Report all hazards, incidents and near misses promptly.Attend mandatory training and maintain professional standards as required by your position.Person specificationQualificationsQualifications in psychology, social work, youth work or behavioural sciences;Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.Current Working with Childrens CheckExperienceExperience in working with appropriate assessment tools to identify treat needs and options for young people;Demonstrated understanding of the theories that underpin effective therapeutic sessions and group work interventions, and ability to apply these to a diverse range of individuals and groups;Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team operating in a complex environment. This includes the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a range of Government and nonGovernment agencies, professional organisations, and community agencies for referrals;Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and sensitively to young people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds;Knowledge of and understanding or the criminal justice system, and the barriers young people impacted by the criminal justice system experience.Experience working within a justice or crime prevention environment;Experience working with complex clients.Core selection criteriaValues alignment: ability to demonstrate and authentically work to The Youth Junctions values and code of conduct.Sector understanding: ability to analyse problems from various angles affecting young adults and to use collaborative processes and knowledge for decision-making and action in line with the program.
