Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.About The Role And Business UnitThe Koori Justice Unit (KJU) is a part of the Aboriginal Justice Group and is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians. The Aboriginal Justice Group works in close partnership with Victorian Aboriginal communities and is guided by principles of Aboriginal self-determination.This exciting and fast-paced position provides leadership and strategic oversight of the KJU with the aim to deliver on key initiatives in the Aboriginal Justice portfolio. The KJU is embarking on the development of Phase 5 of Aboriginal Justice Agreement, and the Director will provide critical leadership in the development of this long-term strategy.Further to this, the Director will oversee administration of a community grants program worth around $40 million per annum, predominantly to Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations.The Director plays a key role in delivering on the department''s key strategic priorities including embedding Aboriginal self-determination and working in genuine partnership with Victorian Aboriginal communities to achieve a fair and accessible justice system for Aboriginal people.Some Of Your Duties Will IncludeProvide high quality and effective engagement with the Aboriginal Justice Caucus and other key Aboriginal stakeholders that enables self-determination and improved justice outcomes.Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, including monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of programs for Aboriginal Victorians.Oversee the management and co-ordination of the Aboriginal Justice Forum.Support the Executive Director and Aboriginal Justice Group executive team to oversee and deliver the Justice Minister''s overarching legislative and policy reform agenda.Proactively build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and develop innovative strategies to facilitate a partnership approach and critical linkages with interdependent business units within the department to ensure successful delivery of required outcomes.Promote positive relationships with other government agencies and stakeholders to identify options and develop innovative strategies for implementing the government''s agenda.To learn more about this role before applying, please read the attached position description.About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have:Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians.Strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, working with Victorian Aboriginal communities and advisory groups, including sophisticated and culturally aware stakeholder engagementA proven track record in senior management and leadership in matters of operational management, resource and financial management, quality management practices and corporate governance.QualificationsA relevant tertiary qualification in law, Aboriginal affairs, public policy or similar is highly desirableApplicants are welcome to utilise support from the Aboriginal Employment Team throughout the recruitment process.
