Job Description:McCloskey by OPIS, a Dow Jones company, is seeking a self-starting reporter for its price reporting team to cover the expanding seaborne metallurgical coal and coke market.About the Role:This position is vital for covering a commodity that remains a key raw material for steel production and energy transition. The successful candidate will excel under daily deadlines and be part of a motivated small team of reporters. Opportunities to collaborate with and contribute to fundamental research within the global McCloskey raw materials team are available. The role is ideally based in Singapore, but other locations in Australia or Asia may be considered for the right candidate.About the Team:McCloskey by OPIS offers market intelligence, price indexes, and forecasting services. Understanding the dynamics of thermal and metallurgical coal, iron ore, scrap, steel, and base metals markets globally and across regions such as Australia, Africa, India, China, Europe, and the Americas is essential, especially in the context of energy transition.You will:Track supply and demand fundamentals of the seaborne metallurgical coal and coke markets.Report on metallurgical coal prices daily and weekly, contributing to McCloskeys key indexes. Develop an understanding of pricing drivers, including supply/demand, supply chain, and derivatives markets.Write breaking market news and in-depth analytical pieces to enhance McCloskeys offerings on metallurgical coal and coke.Research and analyze broader issues affecting supply economics, such as policy developments, geopolitics, investment climate, and ESG factors.Participate in producing the daily metallurgical coal publication.Build and maintain strong contacts with sources and industry relationships.Assist in business development efforts, supporting sales pipelines and processes.Represent McCloskey publicly through client engagement, industry presentations, media interviews, and content marketing.You have:At least 5 years of experience in commodity reporting or research, including roles as a financial reporter or market analyst.A keen news sense and storytelling ability; training in clear, competent, and engaging writing will be provided.Excellent interpersonal skills and team collaboration.Strong quantitative skills are advantageous.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.Ability to work independently and within a team.A sense of humor.A bachelors degree in Economics, Business/Finance, or Politics is preferred.APAC Benefits:Comprehensive insurance and retirement plans.Paid time off and leaves.Educational benefits.Family care benefits.Career development programs.Access to Dow Jones products.Employee referral program.Well-being and fitness programs.Dow Jones is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
