Its an exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australias leading companies in the Maritime Sustainment industry.Navantia Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for a Control Systems Engineer to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. In the role you will be responsible for providing back-end engineering support to the Navantia team to maintain the operational performance of the Navantia Platform IPMS (Integrated Platform Management System) onboard Naval Vessels and within the shore based training facilities, including the IPMS-LBTS Through Life Support Facility (TLSF), a simplified replica of the real-life ship platform control system.To be successful in the role, you will have a can-do attitude and be proactive in your approach. In return you will be part of a successful team who promotes a fun and collaborative team environment.In this role, you will:Install, configure, and test new software versions within the Through Life Support Facility (TLSF) in alignment with the requirements of supported platforms, ensuring all TLSF systems and equipment remain operational and available in accordance with program schedules and Defence readiness requirements.Maintain up-to-date software and hardware configuration control in the TLSF, including real, simulation, and playback software.Configure the TLSF to support operational needs of our ships, ensuring full system compatibility and readiness.Perform root cause analysis and provide comprehensive support for hardware and software troubleshooting within the TLSF and on-board systems.Assist in the development and maintenance of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs, primarily using Schneider Electrics Modicon M580 and Premium series, aligned with IEC 61131-3 standards.Program and configure Human-Machine Interface (HMI) devices, ensuring effective integration within the network.Provide support to the Data Analytics Centre (DAC) by acquiring, processing, and cleaning data.Provide support to other engineers across the ships by configuring the TLSF to replicate, investigate, and resolve hardware and software issues, including support for system updates and modifications.Develop, review, and implement technical documentation including Test Protocols, Engineering Reports and Inspection and Test Procedures (ITPs).Undertake relevant technical research to support the configuration and troubleshooting of control system devices within the TLSF environment, ensuring alignment with platform-specific requirements and engineering best practices.Identify TLSF capability gaps and contribute to continuous improvement by researching and integrating emerging technologies, systems, and processes.Undertake engineering analysis & investigations related to asset performance & optimisation, maintenance & defect repairs and obsolescence.As the ideal candidate, you will have:Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate engineering discipline Electrical/Electronics or MechatronicsExperience using PLC and SCADA Software programming and/or activation and commissioning of Automation SystemsAbility to read and understand electrical single line diagrams and cabling plans.Ability to understand and apply relevant Australian Standards and IMO requirementsHigh level of skill in Standard Computing Packages (MS Office, etc.)Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business.Strong interpersonal skills.Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills.Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrentlyAustralian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance.What its like to work with Navantia AustraliaNavantia Australia plays a key part in the Australian governments Naval Shipbuilding Plan, we are committed to growing Australias shipbuilding and sustainment capability and we want you to grow your career with us.
