Position Title: Communications OfficerOrganisation: Queensland Migrant WorkWiseReports To: Project Director, Queensland Migrant WorkWiseSalary: From $128,906.49 depending on experience plus 15% superannuationEmployment Type: Fixed-term contract commencing July 2025 to 30 June 2026Location: South BrisbaneAbout The Queensland Migrant WorkWise ProjectThe Queensland Council of Unions (the QCU) through Queensland Migrant WorkWise has entered into a 12 month funded agreement with the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs, to deliver an information and education program for temporary visa holders and their employers about their rights and obligations under the Migration Act and other work-related matters in metropolitan, regional and remote locations throughout Queensland.Queensland Migrant WorkWise is an initiative of the QCU, the states peak union body representing 26 affiliate unions and 400,000 Queensland union members.Role PurposeThe Queensland Migrant WorkWise Project Communications Officer will play a critical role in promoting and supporting the program by developing and delivering clear, engaging, and professionally designed communications across multiple platforms underpinned by a strategic communications plan.The Role Will Be Required Towork closely with our partners the Migrant Worker Centre and the Immigration Advice Rights Centre to collaborate over the initial development of resources for the program for licenced usage;develop a Queensland project website and social media channels as an effective resource for temporary visa holders, their employers, and the community;work closely with the Project Director and eight (8) Outreach Officers employed by the program and have direct responsibility for the development of accessible tools, fact sheets, and other information to support the program and to assist with engagement with temporary visa holders, their employers, and other stakeholders such as community organisations and legal centres, local government, and local employer bodies with significant cohorts of migrant workers within their spheres of coverage; anddevelop clear, factual and engaging information around workplace rights and conditions under the Fair Work Act and work health and safety laws in Queensland, focused on increasing awareness of legal obligations and worker entitlements, and highlighting business and workforce benefits of inclusion and diversity.POSITION DESCRIPTION: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERKey ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communications & Content DevelopmentDevelop and execute a communication strategy aligned with project objectives.Produce engaging written and visual content, including fact sheets, information updates, and supporting materials for educational resources.Identify and establish compelling narratives to highlight project success stories and industry case studies.Work with partners, unions and the Department of Home Affairs to identify and manage the processes for translating key materials and content into priority languages.Digital & Online PresenceWork with the Migrant Worker Centre and the Immigration Advice Rights Centre around key messaging and content to support the program information and educational resources.Oversee the creation and management of a dedicated project website as a central hub for information, resources, and updates.Develop a strong digital presence through social media and other communication channels.Develop and manage digital content, ensuring it remains relevant, engaging, and reflective of migrant community and temporary visa holder needs to maximise reach.Stakeholder Engagement & Industry OutreachCollaborate with other project staff and partners to create and distribute key resources.Develop and distribute project newsletters and/or updates.Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure communication materials are accessible and effective, including in relevant languages.Report DevelopmentOversee the layout and design of project updates and reports, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and visual appeal.Translate evaluation insights for feedback to partners on licenced materials and to evaluate the effectiveness of identified inclusion and diversity initiatives for temporary visa holder cohorts and their employers.Key Selection CriteriaEssentialPOSITION DESCRIPTION: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERProven experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to develop engaging content for diverse audiences.Experience in digital content management, website development, and social media strategy.Ability to translate legal rights and obligations and work-related information into simple, understandable and engaging communication materials.Strong project management and organisational skills, with experience managing multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment.Experience working with diverse stakeholders.Evidence of your right to work.
