About the RoleThe Data Engineer role is embedded within projects that directly support the ASDs mission to defend Australia from global threats through foreign signals intelligence, cyber security, and offensive cyber operations. You''ll work alongside high-performing teams to manage and enhance large-scale data ecosystems with a focus on quality, scalability, and security. Key Responsibilities: Data Flow Design: Plan, design, and implement complex data flows across operational systems and business intelligence platforms, maintaining high standards for data security and governance. Data Infrastructure: Manage the architecture and evolution of enterprise data warehouses, data lakes, and engineering solutions to handle large-scale datasets effectively. Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders to understand data needs and build large, complex data sets tailored to both current and future analytics requirements. Streaming Data Systems: Develop and maintain real-time data streaming pipelines that support responsive, data-driven operations. Root Cause Analysis: Dive deep into data issues, uncover root causes, and provide insights that drive process optimization and better business outcomes. Framework Development: Lead the development and refinement of data engineering frameworks and standards to improve the performance, availability, and security of data assets. Project Scheduling: Create, manage, and report on work schedules, ensuring milestones and deliverables are achieved on time and to a high standard. Skills & Experience Proven Experience: Demonstrated track record as a Data Engineer in complex enterprise environments, ideally in Federal Government settings. Project Delivery: Ability to manage timelines and consistently deliver high-quality results. Programming Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Object Oriented Programming in languages including Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, SQL, and Cypher. Processing & Analytics Tools: Skilled in using frameworks such as Apache Spark, MapReduce, Knative, Ray, and Apache NiFi. Data Platforms: Familiar with tools and platforms like , Neo4j, Redis, Oracle, Apache Kafka, and Kubernetes. Certifications: ITIL v3 Foundation certified is preferred. Security RequirementsThis role involves working with sensitive government data and therefore requires:A current AGSVA security clearance: BASELINE, NV1, or NV2.Willingness to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.
