So, if you love it here as much as we do, and you want to shape our region for the future youll want to join our team!With the vision to be Australias most sustainable region, council is at the forefront of delivering a number of region-shaping projects that will see the region become a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity, along with opportunities and a lifestyle for all to enjoy.About the RoleThe Development Services branch enables sustainable development for the community on the Sunshine Coast by working with industry stakeholders to achieve timely, customer focused development assessment services, advice and advocacy in the areas of planning, engineering, environment, landscape, building, plumbing and legislative compliance.We are seeking a Construction Management and Waterway Protection Officer, who will be responsible for educating and improving construction management practices and levels of compliance within the development industry regarding erosion and sediment control (ESC) and to improve the water quality of our wetlands, waterways and ocean.You will implement and provide high-level expert advice and problem solving on environmental matters governed by a range of legal frameworks, council planning scheme, and applicable local laws and policies.You will develop and deliver education programs for the development industry to improve outcomes related to erosion and sediment control (ESC), and best practice construction management practices, and facilitate training and upskilling of other compliance staff within Council to equip and empower staff to proactively respond and enforce good construction management and erosion and sediment control (ESC) practices.You will manage and undertake environmental investigations from complaints received by Council and prepare high quality reports for submission to Council, Councils legal services and relevant reference groups.About youAs a requirement of this role, possession of a recognised tertiary qualification or accreditation in environmental science, environmental engineering or natural resource management, or demonstrated application and experience in the workplace.You will have the knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, policies, planning scheme and state government codes, with proven ability in providing solution focussed construction management and erosion and sediment control expertise and advice relating to development activity.You will have demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills with particular emphasis on advocacy, liaison, consultation, building effective relationships and cohesive teams, negotiation, conflict resolution and assertiveness in order to research, analysis and evaluate complex issues as well as develop innovative strategies for their resolution.Appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.Our Culture & Employee BenefitsCouncil is committed to creating aninclusive, culturally diverse , healthy, skilled and dedicated workplace culture.
