There are comprehensive treatment programs and active research in Western Sydney Local Health District.The position is expected to provide medical input for the indigenous population with mental health issues. Successful applicants will be expected to take part in planning and service development as well as having training responsibilities.Preferably the applicant will hold a Certificate in Old Age Psychiatry or have experience working in Old Age Psychiatry. Applicants with more extensive experience with adult psychiatry will also be considered.Successful applicants will work as part of a well-established team, with peer to peer support, and opportunities for personal and professional development. There are opportunities for a variety of roles: supervision, consultation, teaching and research.Successful applicants will provide admitting, consultative, procedural, outpatient and on-call services within the specialty as determined and required by the District.Essential Requirements for Appointment1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).2. Sound clinical knowledge in Old Age Psychiatry and comprehensive mental health service provision demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position with experience in Community Mental Health.3. Sound knowledge of principles of Recovery based clinical practice and integrated Mental Health Care.4. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:a. High level interpersonal and communication skills.b. Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.c. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.d. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.5. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.6. Experience in community and old age psychiatry. Certificate in Old Age Psychiatry is desirable.Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 6 months are eligible to apply.Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters.Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award or the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below.
