Job Description

GPRA is seeking a highly motivated, well organised and self-driven person with entrepreneurial and business skills who is experienced, at director Level, in the governance of organisations like GPRA. Desirable qualifications, skills and experience for this appointment include legal and information technology.The Board meets either face-to-face ( scheduled 4 times a year) or via videoconferencing, as well as additional online meetings, as required. The Appointed Director will be required to attend a minimum of 80% of all meetings, and be prepared to Chair the Boards Nominations and Remuneration Committee.The term is for three years from date of appointment with a stipend to recognise services rendered.General Practice Registrars Australia (GPRA) is the national peak body for future GPs in Australia. Our members include medical students, prevocational doctors, GP registrars to early career GPs with an interest in general practice.We have 20,000 members. GPRA is the independent advocate and impartial advisor amongst the General Practice training landscape in Australia. General Practice Registrars Australia Ltd is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).GPRA aims to shape the future of general practice, so that we improve the access of all Australians to quality healthcare. We aim to ensure that general practice is the medical specialty of choice, and for prevocational doctors and medical students seeking a vocational specialist career pathway.GPRA sets the national employment conditions for the employment of GP registrars and provides advocacy, employment and training support to our members as well as delivers additional education and exam preparation support.Ability to communicate at all levels and with the membership as required.Experience as a board director.Ability to be a team player, work well in a group of individuals representing the general practice sector.Active listening skills and thoughtfulness in considering the depth and breadth of the issues that impact the general practice training environment and workforce.Ability to negotiate and work effectively with people at all times.Ability to work independently.Sound organisational and communication skills.Professional background in workforce and culture.Desired CriteriaTertiary qualifications in law and/or information technologyExperience in the law and information technology, health or related sector.Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.Previous non-profit board experience and/or knowledge of non-profit board governance.Applications close on 18th July 2025.Please email ceo@gpra.org.au with your resume and cover letter specifically addressing each of the above criteria to be considered.
