The role will specifically be supporting school-aged early school leavers (approx. 16 years of age), with a focus on identifying opportunities and helping students achieve their study goals, build meaningful connections and realise their career and study aspirations.The incumbent will work closely with other subject matter experts in the Student Support and Engagement team, including Koorie Student Support Officers and Equitable Learning and Disability Support advisors, delivering 1:1 tailored guidance across academic, career, and personal development domainsThe role will be primarily based in Dandenong but will require some travel to other campus locations.Key responsibilities include:Provide tailored 1:1 mentorship to Koorie young people and young people with disabilities, to facilitate smooth transitions into education, training or employment.Develop and deliver group programs for Koorie young people and young people with disabilities, as part of their engagement in the Victorian Early School Leavers Initiative program, including study groups and facilitation of peer-led support.Offer 1:1 guidance across academic, career, and personal development, helping students set and achieve study goals, build meaningful connections, and develop career aspirationsCollaborate with Koorie Student Support Officers and Equitable Learning and Disability Support Advisors, along with other Student Support and Engagement staff to address barriers to student engagement and retention for priority cohortsDevelop and deliver workshops and self-service resources, and to foster resilience, self-care and life skills, and build strategies to promote student independence and personal growth, focusing on the unique needs of Koorie young people and young people with a disabilityCommunicate with parents/guardians of Koorie young people and young people with disabilities where required to ensure adequate and appropriate support is being provided.Coordinate referral pathways to internal and external support services, ensuring students have holistic support throughout their studies at ChisholmBuild and maintain strong networks with external organisations, community groups, and referral agencies to enhance the breadth of support available to studentsAct as a key point of contact for the Chisholm Skills and Jobs Centre and other referral partners for young people with a disability and Koorie young people engaged in the Victorian Early School Leavers Connection InitiativeABOUT YOUYou are a highly motivated individual withExperience with mentorship and coaching of young people, and/or case management in the community services sectorAbility to work collaboratively and adopt a teamwork approachEffective verbal and written communication skills relevant to the functions of the role (i.e. outbound communications including cold calls, reporting, external stakeholder management)Ability to fulfill and maintain strict confidentiality protocols when working with staff/studentDemonstrated ability to present information and facilitate group work, tailored to people from diverse cultural, social, ethnic and educational backgroundsDemonstrated capacity to engage and motivate clientsStrong problem solving, collaboration and advice seeking skillsAbility to work independently within policies and guidelinesHighly developed communication and analytical skills, with an ability to work effectively with students, staff and stakeholders at all levels and from diverse backgroundsQualifications required for the role:Certificate IV level or above qualification in youth related services and/or extensive experience in a relevant role, including Youth Work, Community Services, or EducationABOUT USChisholm is one of the largest vocational training providers in the state with a team of over 1,400 dedicated staff supporting 41,000 students who choose to study at Chisholm and training at our modern campuses across Melbournes southeast and online.
