Job location Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield, just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne city centre. Due to our announced expansion, we need experienced, like-minded professionals to join our team. Thomas Embling Hospital is a secure mental health hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation, and continuing care programs. With planned expansion starting in 2024, including a dedicated Womens service and an additional medium secure mens facility, now is the time to join us! About the Role: The Mental Health Officer will support a combined inpatient facility comprising an Acute and Continuing Care Program, working within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the therapeutic program''s quality. Duties: Under the supervision of the Unit Occupational Therapist Plan, implement, and evaluate group sessions and activities addressing social, recreational, and daily living skills within the hospital and community, independently in consultation with the team. Under the supervision of the Unit Social Worker Assist with welfare tasks focused on patients'' basic needs, including clothing, banking, and liaising with Centrelink. Support patients with practical activities like shopping. Follow therapeutic programs with individual patients under supervision. Participate in assessment and management planning for patients. Help patients access campus programs such as music, TAFE, or YMCA. About You: Full or partial qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Certificate or Diploma in disability support, mental health support, allied health assistant, welfare, or similar) or willingness to pursue such qualifications through professional development. Understanding of the AHA role and ability to work within a multidisciplinary framework. Knowledge of the needs of mentally ill patients and awareness of care issues in a forensic environment. Ability to establish positive relationships with patients by building rapport.
