Each day, our researchers and graduates are tackling global health challenges and striving to improve equity in communities locally and around the world.A postdoctoral researcher is required to research and strengthen immunisation programs and surveillance for vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) in the Asia-Pacific region. The successful candidate will be required to support the implementation of electronic immunisation registries and strengthen surveillance systems to monitor VPDs in Lao PDR, The Philippines and Fiji. The position is co-funded by the NHMRC-funded eAsia Joint Research Program to address collaborative surveillance for measles in Southeast Asia as well as the Australian Government''s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Australian Regional Immunisation Alliance (ARIA) funded project on improving measles vaccine uptake using Electronic Immunisation Registers. The successful candidate will also support and be involved in other projects in the Asia-Pacific region.This is a unique opportunity for a post-doctoral research fellow to contribute to important research focusing on designing methods to improve infectious diseases prevention and control in the Asia-Pacific region. The role will be embedded in the Infectious Diseases, Immunisation and Emergencies (IDIE) GroupYour key responsibilities will be to:Work with the research team to understand current research questions and needs.collaborate with the project leader and team to develop research protocols, ethics applications and project implementationprovide deep technical knowledge and project management support to the project leader and collaborate with academic and research professionals to support the group researchactively lead and contribute to research activities, designing research protocols, undertaking critical aspects of research work including formation of analysis and key findingsensure accurate collation of research data, draw insights and analyse, report information from the research undertakenlead and contribute to development of research papers and grantsfacilitate effective communication and good working relationships amongst key stakeholder groups, investigator team and IDIE team membersassist in development of grants and project designtravel to Southeast Asia and Pacific as required (approximately 1-3 times per year). Domestic travel may also be required.About youEssential skillshave a PhD (or near completion of PhD for level A) in Public Health (epidemiology, biostatistics etc) and/or infectious diseases/ immunisation or an equivalent amount of relevant training or experiencedemonstrated experience in vaccine programs, public health surveillance and epidemiologycompetency with Statistical Software STATA and/or R Studio or similarproject management experience in a research environmentdemonstrated experience working across multidisciplinary teams and ability to build effective relations with colleagues and clientsscientific writing experience, able to facilitate, review and write for journals and grant applicationsexcellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines and achieve required outcomesWorking With Children Check clearanceDesirable skills (in addition to the above)competency in mixed method researchexperience of implementing surveillance or field-based studies in resource-limited settingexperience in global public health.To keep our community safe, please be aware of our COVID safety precautions which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
