(Level A) + 17% superannuationAbout the opportunityThe School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate - Wiring Australian Cities to work on the ARC-funded project ''Wiring Australian Cities''.The project examines the wiring and re-wiring of Australian cities for telecommunications. Our objective is to understand the ways in which space is made for telecommunications infrastructure, by studying how land, labour, materials, finance and territorial authority are assembled and contested in the process of wiring and rewiring Australian cities. In doing so, we aim to produce new insights into the sweeping social, political, economic and environmental impacts of urban telecommunications connectivity.The successful candidate will be recruited for a three-year, full-time position working as part of a research team led by two Chief Investigators (Prof Kurt Iveson at University of Sydney and A/Prof Marilu Melo Zurita at UNSW). The postdoctoral associate will be involved in all aspects of the project, collaborating with the project team on:data collection, which may include interviews with key industry stakeholders and relevant groups involved in the design, installations and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure, archival research, legislative and policy analysis, field observations and site visitsdata analysis and dissemination of findings through academic and non-academic publicationsproject management, including a leading role establishing and supporting industry and academic relationships through a project reference group and project workshops.About youThe University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity.
