Located at the Parramatta and Penrith Offices.Opportunity to utilise your financial counselling skills to assist people experiencing gambling related challengesAbout the opportunityThe School of Psychology is welcoming applications for a Financial Counsellor to be part of the GambleAware team, and will work within the guidelines of the operating policies of the GambleAware clinic and related University policies.The successful candidate will be expected to provide financial counselling to people experiencing gambling related challenges or harm and their significant others as well as effective community engagement to relevant stakeholders in the community.As this is a client facing role, you will be required to be in office 4 days per week.Your key responsibilities will be to:provide financial assessment, counselling and case work to people experiencing gambling related challenges or harm and their significant othersprovide comprehensive, accurate and timely information related to the client''s individual circumstancesadvocate and negotiate with credit providers on the client''s behalfparticipate in developing community education resources on debt and gambling related issues in addition to other community engagement activitiesprovide face-to-face practical support including establishing debt repayment plans and budget planningmaintain client files to a high professional standard and take part in file audits.About youThe University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Financial Counsellor who has:a diploma of financial counselling or diploma of community services (financial counselling)a valid membership with an appropriate financial counselling association e.g. FCAN and FCAdemonstrated understanding and experience in complying with Good Clinical Practice, regulatory, ethical, privacy and other relevant guidelinesexcellent oral and written communication skillssuperior interpersonal skills including ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, team members and stakeholders and exercise tact and sound judgementa minimum of 6 months experience in a financial counselling positionexperience working with people identified as First Nations/and CALD (desirable)experience working with people experiencing gambling problems and significant others (desirable).Work Rights: you must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply.
