To achieve our aims, we recruit the very best people who understand the City exists to enable and deliver the aspirations of the community.The OpportunityAs a Senior Transport Engineer in the City of Perth, you are primarily responsible for the design of traffic engineering projects to maintain and improve the Citys transport networks. This work is critical not only for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and goods, but also for supporting Perths identity as a vibrant, accessible and dynamic capital city where well-designed streets and transport systems contribute to an active public realm, thriving local economy, and high-quality urban experience. The position will develop projects from the initial feasibility stage through to concept design and working with internal teams through delivery, ensuring projects meet the required design standards and safety requirements. The position will also undertake other traffic engineering tasks such as Road Safety Audits, review of Traffic Impact Assessments as well as mentor and supervise junior staff members and assisting in community engagement and stakeholder management activities.Reporting to the Urban Transport Lead within our Transport & Urban Design team, your responsibilities would primarily include:Take a lead role in the concept design and development of traffic engineering projects and programs such as the Citys Two-way Streets program, integration of cycle and pedestrian priority facilities on the network in line with the Citys Walking in the City and Bike plans;Review and modifications to existing signalised intersections, provide improvements to the public realm focused on vulnerable road user safety and priority;Pro-actively identify safety issues within the public realm as they relate to all forms of contemporary transport;Engagement with regulatory and asset stakeholders such as Main Roads Western Australia, Public Transport Authority and, Department of Transport, provide technical advice to assist in the delivery of capital works projects in the public realm including major streetscape upgrades, intersection modifications, and traffic management schemes;Undertake the analysis of crash statistics, accident investigations, and research, determine and design accident remedial measures and prepare funding submissions;Develop project briefs and manage the delivery of projects through the design phase including budget control, quality control, and the management of consultants and contractors, andSupport changes to policy, guidelines and strategic work to improve transport and place outcomes.About YouTo succeed in this role, you will possess:Tertiary qualification in traffic engineering, transport planning, civil engineering, or other relevant discipline with proven industry experience;Extensive experience in traffic engineering design and traffic operations in the urban context preferably in Australia and in a Local Government environment;Demonstrated knowledge and contemporary best practice experience in traffic engineering including Road Safety Audits and the review of Traffic Impact Assessments; andDemonstrated skills and experience in the plan, design and delivery of traffic engineering projectsIf your experience and capabilities match these criteria, we welcome your application.Above all, you will live our values of Commitment, Teamwork, Courage and Respect that allow us to come together to lead and support the community.Please view the attached Application Pack to learn more about the role and working at the City.EligibilityTo be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:A right to work in Australia (e.g. a birth certificate, current passport or current visa); andA satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months)How To ApplyPlease apply online by clicking the APPLY button below, which will direct you to the Citys application questionnaire.When prompted, please submit: your current resume; a cover letter that concisely addresses the Selection Criteria; and any relevant qualifications or certifications.
