Bangawarra Cancer Care Centre comprises of an Oncology Day Clinic which operates Monday to Friday 07:30 17:00hrs providing care to outpatients. There are 9 chairs and 2 beds allocated for the treatment of Oncology outpatients. Treatments include administration of chemotherapy agents, immunotherapies, blood product support, iron infusions and therapeutic venesections. Also within the Centre are 8 medical Oncology inpatient beds, which has capacity to surge during times of increased demand. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.The Clinical Nurse Consultant McGrath Breast Care is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for providing specialised breast care, information, education, and support to clients relating to breast cancer in accordance with evidence based clinical practice guidelines and the McGrath Model of Care.A breast care nurse (BCN) is defined by the National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre, now Cancer Australia as a registered nurse who applies advanced knowledge of the health needs, preferences, and circumstances of individuals with breast cancer to optimise the individuals health and well-being at various phases across the continuum of care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow-up and palliative care. This advanced knowledge is based on an in-depth understanding of theory and research relevant to the field of breast cancer nursing. Specifically, BCN practice incorporates advanced knowledge and skills in supportive care, including providing specialized and tailored information and education, psychological support, and clinical care"The BCN adapts their practice according to the specific and changing needs of individuals, taking into account their multiple health needs, concerns and preferences for care. The BCN facilitates continuity of care between different phases of the cancer journey, care settings, care plans and care providers.The McGrath Sponsored Breast Care Nurse Position ShouldProvide specialised breast care, information, education, and support to clients relating to breast cancer in accordance with evidence based clinical practice guidelines and the McGrath Model of Care.Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary treatment team and relevant community service providers to coordinate the delivery of client-oriented, specialised support services across the care continuum, to clients and their families, andProvide expert clinical advice and clinical leadership on evidence-based breast care services to nursing staff, allied health, and other members of the multidisciplinary team (or to health care providers a client with breast cancer may come into contact with).The Breast Care Nurses specific responsibilities can be classified according to these six key functions as outlined below.Application of Advanced Breast Cancer Knowledge and SkillsPromotion of Multidisciplinary CareFacilitation of Client-Focused Support and Treatment; Provision of Client-Specific InformationCommitment to Maintenance of Professional Standard; Act as a Breast Cancer resource.Learn more about The Sutherland Hospital here.Selection Criteria1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with a minimum 5 years full time equivalent post qualification experience with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field of Breast Care or related discipline, with postgraduate nursing qualifications relevant to the field of practice e.g. Breast and/or Cancer Nursing or other such qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public health organisation.Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.Current Drivers Licence and willingness to utilise as required for the positionNeed more information?Click here for the Position Description and SESLHD Expected StandardsFind out more about applying for this positionOur CORE Values are Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment and have been created by employees for employees and help define how we work and to inspire positive interactions in the workplace.Reasonable AdjustmentsNSW Health recognises everyone is unique, and that you may require some adjustments to ensure you have the best opportunity to apply.
