It has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The Court hears over 12,000 criminal, common law, and commercial cases each year. The County Court has unlimited monetary jurisdiction in common law and commercial matters. In its criminal jurisdiction, the Court hears all indictable offences except treason, murder, and related offences.There are a total of 80 Judges of the Court and over 300 staff, including judicial support staff. The County Court regularly conducts circuit sittings at 12 circuit courts situated in major centres throughout regional Victoria.The County Court is committed to continuous improvement in accordance with the International Framework for Court Excellence. The Court''s vision is to be a leader in court excellence, delivering the highest standard of justice to the community and inspiring public confidence in the rule of law.About the RoleYou will significantly contribute to improving the overall efficiency of the Division by focusing on the active case management of personal injury matters in their pre trial stages. You will work within a team that supports the Division and is comprised of Division Lawyers, Registrars and self-represented litigant case managers. Your duties will include:proactively liaising with parties to ensure matters are ready to commence on the trial datetriaging and analysing interlocutory issues and disputesengaging with parties to promote early resolution of the interlocutory disputes, without judicial intervention, where possibleconducting mediationsplaying an active role in the development and implementation of practice and procedures within the Common Law Divisionworking closely and collaboratively with the judges, in particular the Head of the Common Law Division, judicial registrars and the Common Law Registry.About YouApplicants are required to be, or eligible to be, an Australian Legal Practitioner.The ideal candidate will also have:post-admission experience in civil litigation with an interest in alternate dispute resolutionknowledge and/or experience in common law, particularly in personal injury claimsexceptional communication skills; both verbal and writtenability to work flexibly as a part of a high performing team and within a dynamic environmenthighly developed problem solving skills with the ability to develop and evaluate solutionsstrong conceptual and organisational skills and knowledgeThis is a part time (0.5FTE) position for a fixed term period.How to applyClick the Apply Now'' button, ensuring you include the following in your application:resumea short cover letterOther informationCSV is the employer of staff at Courts Group.
