The role is responsible for leading the Operational Readiness and Release Management functions, ensuring the seamless and secure transition of new technology solutions into business-as-usual (BAU) operations.This position plays a pivotal role in coordinating technical readiness activities, engaging with complex stakeholder environments, and ensuring that project and program deliverables meet operational, performance, and supportability standards.The role operates with a high degree of independence and decision-making authority, and will be accountable for resolving risks and issues impacting service transition and enterprise delivery outcomes.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:Leading complex technical and operational initiatives to support the transition of new systems, platforms, and services into production.Providing strategic vision and senior-level technical guidance on the implementation of solutions, ensuring alignment with operational readiness and supportability standards.Leading technical decision-making processes, managing solution-related risks and issues, and offering expert advice to project teams, enterprise architects, and project managers.Establishing and nurturing relationships with key stakeholdersincluding senior executives, delivery partners, vendors, and business unitsto ensure solutions are aligned with organisational goals.Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and frameworks, including those related to information security, privacy, risk, and data protection.Overseeing release planning, management, and execution activities to ensure timely, controlled, and coordinated transitions into BAU.Driving service acceptance and assurance planning across the project lifecycle to ensure support and operations teams are fully equipped.Managing and mentoring a team of internal staff and contractors, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.Skills, Experience, and AttributesThe successful candidate will demonstrate:Extensive experience leading ICT operational readiness and service transition programs in large, complex environments.Strong technical understanding of IT operations, enterprise architecture, systems implementation, and delivery within hybrid or cloud-based environments.A proven track record of leading structured release management and cutover planning across high-risk or multi-stakeholder programs.Experience working in or alongside public sector organisations, with an understanding of government governance and delivery frameworks.High-level stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership.Strong judgement, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities in complex operational settings.Demonstrated ability to manage diverse teams and external vendors under tight timelines and shifting priorities.Familiarity with relevant methodologies and frameworks such as ITIL, Agile, PRINCE2, and service design principles.Qualifications and RequirementsTertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.Industry certifications such as ITIL, PRINCE2, or equivalent are desirable.Must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain Baseline Security Clearance.Seniority levelSeniority levelDirectorEmployment typeEmployment typeContractJob functionJob functionInformation Technology, Strategy/Planning, and Project ManagementIndustriesInformation Services, Government Administration, and Government Relations ServicesReferrals increase your chances of interviewing at SKL Technology by 2xGet notified about new Director of Operations jobs in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.Sydney, New South Wales, Australia A$180,000 -
