Reporting to the Group General Counsel, this role delivers strategic and operational legal advice through internal and external resources that is commercial and fit-for-purpose for A&G success. This role will take a hands-on approach to ensure a scalable operating model is designed and implemented as well as leading the legal division to ensure appropriate solutions are developed to effectively manage legal and commercial risk and compliance.About YouAs a senior leader at A&G, you''ll model our values and culture, driving high performance with integrity and finding solutions that benefit all stakeholders. As General Counsel you''ll influence the adoption of our values across the organisation, encourage adherence to company policies and procedures, and promote a culture of high performance with high integrity, demonstrating commercial discipline, ambition, effective risk management, and a One Team mindset.Additionally, your key responsibilities will be focused on the following areas:Demonstrate commercial discipline, challenger ambition, effective risk management and a One Team mindset.Provide guidance, mentorship and professional development opportunities to direct reports and the Group Legal team.Act as a key strategic advisor and aid the Group General Counsel to make informed decisions that not only align with legal requirements but also strategically minimise potential legal risks and leverage commercial opportunities.Identify potential legal risks and devise strategies to minimise or mitigate them.Design and implement a scalable operating model for the legal team in the context of a growing business including developing models, processes and procedures and reporting tools for the effective and efficient running of the Legal departmentAct as a senior legal advisor to the Group General Counsel and senior leadership teamsContribute to the development and implementation of the groups legal strategy with Group General CounselDrafting, negotiating and advising on commercial agreements and manage the legal life cycle of those agreementsProviding legal review and signoff, as appropriate for customer-facing materialsProviding advice and maintaining Auto & Generals IP portfolio including copyright, trademark and patent applications and oversee enforcement of Auto & Generals IP rights to protect the brandProactively supporting through legal advice to the Group General Counsel in the engagement with other regulators including APRA, ASIC, OAIC and the CGCDeveloping a framework for collateral review which supports efficient review through the business, compliance and legal, empowering the right people in the right wayManaging the relationships for the Group with external law firms, including oversight of the law firms usedManagement for the corporate legal structure of the Group, working with the Group General Counsel, CEO and Executive, including compliance with APRA, ASIC and other regulatory requirementsQualifications And ExperienceYou are an accomplished legal professional with a proven track record in driving performance and enhancing workplace culture, skilled in commercial law, insurance law, corporate governance and regulatory compliance. You excel in strategic planning and team management. With strong commercial acumen and a focus on continuous improvement and risk mitigation, you effectively address complex legal issues and implement frameworks that support the business.At least 10 years insurance legal experience coupled with a relevant tertiary and post-tertiary qualification in law with a current Qld practicing certificateStrong understanding of commercial law, insurance law, corporate governance and regulatory complianceExcellent analytical, problem- solving and decision-making skillsStrong leadership and engagement skills, with the ability to manage SME experts the A&G wayStrong communication, influencing and negotiation skillsAbility to build effective relationships with senior managers and other key stakeholdersHigh impact presentation skills, demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to think strategicallyOur PerksExtra leave: Enjoy additional leave days on us!
