The Doctor on call follows the Processes and Clinical Governance frameworks to confirm optimal service delivery and outcomes to Travellers requiring assistance. Key outcomes include effective case management and medical direction, regulatory adherence, monitoring, and mitigating clinical risk.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESTravel Medical Assistance Management:Act as one of the senior medical escalation points for medical case direction from the medical team members.Support triage and oversight of travel medical assistance cases to ensure timely and appropriate care is bring provided by on location providers.Ensure medical facilities fits the patient''s medical condition based on Group Medical and Travel Network recommendations and location risk matrices.Evaluate the indications for an upgrade in care and transfer/evacuation to the most appropriate medical facility.Consider medical indications and opportunities for trip curtailment and/or patient repatriation.Be the decision maker for medical repatriation indication, timing, and modalities.Supervise and provide medical expertise in managing complex, costly, and difficult travel medical assistance cases handled by the entityBe involved in sensitive case management by receiving sensitive case escalation notifications as part of the ALERT processMonitor and supervise appropriate medical assistance services for clients in partnership with the Head of Operations and medical teams (other Europ Assistance entities and hospitals).Be available for on call escalations as required to provide prompt clinical case directionand ensure handover from shift to shift for all high priority cases.Ensure empathetic and effective medical communication with family and relatives for complex/dramatic casesClinical Governance, Risk & Compliance:Adherence to global MED-OPS guidelines (MEDCARE) in regards with medical standards and regulationsEnsure adherence to the group medical governance framework, policies and procedures, and contribute to review and updates to these as and when requiredParticipate in the medical audit program including post case reviews of evacuations, repatriations or other complex and/or high-cost cases.Participate in monthly medical board meetings with other medical doctors and/or Group Medical leadershipKEY EXPECTED OUTCOMESTravel Medical Assistance Management:Timely and effective management of travel medical assistance cases, ensuring patient safety and appropriate medical care, meeting SLAsTimely and appropriate decisions regarding medical transfers, evacuations, and repatriations within SLAs.High standards of medical expertise in managing complex and sensitive cases, with effective escalation processes.Accurate monitoring and assessment of medical activities, leading to informed decision-making and continuous improvement.Availability to support the Doctor on Call roster specifically for 7 continuous days, 24 hours a dayAttendance at Daily handover and/or Priority case Transmission meetingsEnhanced quality of medical assistance services, contributing to overall client satisfaction and safety.Empathetic communication with patients'' families, ensuring support and understanding during complex casesClinical Governance, Risk & Compliance:Compliance with medical group policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and regulatory adherence.Engaged and involved medical professionals, aligned with the AA mission and in regular contact with the AA medical director.Documented post case review action plans and regular action status reviews.Review and signoff of all post mission case reviews.Documented KRI mitigation plans.Key Clinical KRIs remain with tolerance levels.ROLE REQUIREMENTSMedical Expertise: Extensive knowledge and experience in medical operations, particularly in managing travel medical assistance cases.Minimum 5 years in emergency/retrieval/remote medicineClinical Practice: Currently practicing as a medical professional, ensuring up-to-date clinical skills and knowledge.Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of Australian medical regulations and standards, including compliance with AFSL requirements.Medical Registration: Maintain clinical currency and requirements set out by AHPRADecision-Making: Proven ability to make critical decisions regarding medical transfers, evacuations, and repatriations.Leadership: Strong leadership skills to support and develop a medical team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and team membersAnalytical Skills: Ability to collect, analyse, and interpret medical data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to manage complex and sensitive medical cases.Training and Development: Experience in providing guidance and training to medical and operational teams to enhance service quality and compliance.Empathy: Ability to communicate empathetically with patients and their families, especially in complex or dramatic cases.Medical Expertise: Ideal to have experience or exposure in aviation and/or Travel or remote location medicine.
