If so, this is your opportunity to be part of a team ensuring the safety and compliance of electrical appliances and equipment in regulatory settingsWe are seeking candidates with hands-on experience in electrical testing laboratories, and/or in the assessment and review of electrical safety test reports. Professionals with a background in electrical product design or compliance, particularly for appliances and equipment, are also encouraged to apply.Your knowledge of electrical hazards, product safety and certifications (e.g. Certificates of Approval, Conformity, or Suitability) will position you for success in this role.Essential Requirements:A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience, or qualifications as an advanced Electrical TechnicianSound knowledge of certification principles and/or ISO/IEC 17065Sound knowledge of Australian and/or international electrical safety standardsCertificate IV in Government (investigations) or preparedness to undertake an identical or similar employee sponsored program.Quality Assurance (QA) knowledge desirableAbout the RoleAs an Electrical Certification Officer, you will be responsible for assessing and certifying electrical appliances and equipment, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and standards. You will also contribute by assisting the enforcement team in providing technical advice and understanding of the standards. Your knowledge and experience will assist to enhance the broader safety initiatives that address emerging issues in the electrical sector.Key Responsibilities:Assess and certify electrical articles in line with legislation, regulatory requirements, and applicable national and international standardsEvaluate and provide recommendations based on technical advice, reports, and submissionsAssist with managing, maintaining and auditing of the Recognised External Approval Schemes (REAS)Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholdersRepresent the department on relevant electrical standards committeesKey Challenges:Balancing competing priorities and high volumes of technical assessmentsEnsuring all decisions are aligned with legislation and best regulatory practiceAbout the Team Testing Services, Electrical & Gas ApprovalsThe Electrical & Gas Approvals unit is a small, specialised team within the Licensing and Accreditation directorate. We provide expert technical services to assess and certify a wide range of electrical appliances, accessories, and other products ensuring they meet all relevant safety standards and legal requirements.
