Operating for more than 45 years and employing more than 1,300 staff around Australia, Mind is a leading employer of people with lived experience of mental health challenges, recognising their unique ability to connect with and motivate clients and guide recovery.About the roleWe are seeking a compassionate and motivated Counsellor for a fixed-term, full-time position until 30 June 2026 to deliver outreach counselling and mental health support to farmers, their families, and rural communities affected by prolonged drought across Port Lincoln and the Eyre and Far North region.In this role, you will provide brief interventions, trauma-informed counselling, referrals, and care coordination using strengths-based, recovery-oriented approaches. You will support individuals to enhance their wellbeing and navigate both environmental and emotional challenges.Key responsibilitiesDeliver brief, trauma-informed counselling interventions to individuals and families experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges related to droughtProvide crisis support to individuals in acute distress, including those at risk of self-harm or suicide, and facilitate referrals to emergency services when necessary.Engage with and maintain trust-based relationships with farmers, local leaders, and community groups, and collaborate with local stakeholders to understand community needs and priorities.Facilitate group sessions focused on stress management, resilience, and peer support tailored to rural community needs.Collaborate with local service providers to coordinate holistic care and strengthen referral pathways.What youll bringTertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or other health-related field.Demonstrated experience in delivering mental health support in rural or agricultural settings, is highly desirable.Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, mental health recovery, and care coordination.Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.Ability to work independently across a regional area (unrestricted drivers licence and own vehicle required).BenefitsSalary packaging up to $15,900 p.a. plus 50% remote area benefits for eligible living expenses (e.g. rent, mortgage interest, utilities).Option to access Meal and Entertainment allowance up to $2,650 p.a. via Salary Packaging.Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), provided by Converge International,for you and your immediate family members.Professional development through regular supervision sessions.Interested?To apply visit Mind Careers - reference number 497927.
