Our partnerships with our clients are what matters to us the most.This role is for an Applied Geomorphologist who sits at the intersection of fluvial/coastal geomorphology, hydrology and hydraulics and civil engineering disciplines to join our Engineering Geomorphology team.Floodplains, coastal sediments and slope deposits form the building foundations for most of the worlds cities and constitute the deposits that civil engineers work and build in. Each of these environments presents a unique set of engineering challenges. Applied/Engineering Geomorphology combines technical knowledge across fluvial/coastal geomorphology, engineering geology, hydrology, hydraulics and sedimentology to solve engineering problems and deliver optimised design solutions for our clients. Demand from our clients for robust and pragmatic solutions is high, and with your strong knowledge of the complex interactions between geomorphic and surface processes, hydraulics and sediment transport, you will help deliver these growing services.The role can be based in any of our Australian East-Coast offices, although Wollongong/NSW base are preferred as this is where the core of our Engineering Geomorphology services are currently based. As a team player, you will be comfortable collaborating with our team of hydrologists, geomorphologists and civil/geotechnical engineers as well as other technical experts across the business. Most of our work is currently for local government and the renewables sectors, although we also deliver projects across Industry, Mining & Minerals and the Built Environment sectors.We have a solid pipeline thanks to our focus on technical excellence, practical solutions and strong client relationships; however, we expect that as a Senior/Associate Consultant, you will have started to build your own client relationships, and we will support you to do that to grow further. We work in a collaborative environment across our APAC offices with other multi-disciplinary teams and strongly with Hydrology & Hydrogeology, Geotechnical Engineering, Asset Transformation and Closure and Planning teams.Our Ideal CandidateWe are looking for a candidate with a strong technical background driven to be an expert in your chosen field. You will enjoy delivering and developing the team around you and helping SLR achieve our goal of Making Sustainability Happen.Position OverviewThe position responsibilities of a Senior/Associate Applied Geomorphologist are to:Manage multiple Engineering Geomorphology projects,Provide specialist scientific advice and support to Clients and relevant Hydrology & Hydrogeology, Geotechnical Engineering, Asset Transformation and Closure and Planning teams,Identify opportunities (internally and externally) and engage potential Clients to secure relevant project work.We are open to investing in proven Principals looking to take their career to the next step, and open to those who may be relatively new to consulting but with a strong and practical academic career (PhD Graduate level). Perhaps you are a seasoned consultant looking for a bit more freedom in how you work. We can be flexible in shaping this role to fit the right candidate.Skills And ExperienceAs a passionate industry expert, and genuine team player, you will bring with you some of the following skills:Minimum 4-8 years experience in the field of fluvial/coastal geomorphology, hydrology and hydraulics, geological sciences or environmental/civil/natural resources engineering.A PhD or equivalent experience in fluvial/coastal geomorphology, hydrology and hydraulics, geological sciences or environmental/civil/natural resources engineering.Strong analytical skills, with a strong background across some of the following topics:Fluvial/coastal geomorphology with proven understanding of the complex interactions between geomorphic and surface processes, hydraulics and sediment transport across catchments and coasts.Numerical modelling of river/coastal hydraulics, hydrology and sediment transport.River and/or coastal engineering design and management.Effective communication with colleagues and clients.Strong commercial acumen and ability to support building our client base.Genuine ability and desire to be a leader in supporting and elevating the team around you.Our BenefitsWe are proud of our unique culture where we work together to collaborate on projects to get the best possible outcome for our clients.
